Office Chair Too Tight

Admin October 09, 2026

The issue of an office chair being too tight can be addressed specifically based on the problems with different components. Here are common situations and solutions:

If the chair back is too tight and won't recline: The root cause lies in the component that controls the backward tilt, which is located at the insertion point of the gas lift rod and has aๆ‹จ็‰‡ (paddle, here we can translate it as 'tab' for better understanding in English context) inside. When the sensitivity of the tab decreases, usually due to prolonged use, two measures can be taken. First, use lubricating oil. Drip the lubricating oil on the tab area to enhance its sensitivity through lubrication, allowing the chair back to recline more smoothly. Second, disassemble and reassemble it. During disassembly, carefully check the tab and related components for wear, deformation, etc. If any problems are found, repair or replace them in a timely manner. At the same time, check and adjust the adjusting screws to ensure they have the appropriate tightness and guarantee the normal use of the chair back's backward-tilting function.

If the gas lift rod is stuck too tightly: There are two effective methods. Method one is suitable for chairs that have only been used for a few days. First, lay the chair on its side, press the lifting handle firmly with your left hand to fix the lifting part and prevent it from moving during the knocking process. Then, hold a hammer in your right hand and strike the steel base support, that is, the contact point between the gas lift rod and the base support, vigorously. The vibration generated by the knocking will loosen and knock down the gas lift rod. Method two is used when method one is ineffective. First, remove the base support to fully expose the gas lift rod, and then strike the top of the gas lift rod vigorously, using the impact force to remove it.

If the screws on the computer chair are screwed too tightly: Over-tightening the screws can have serious consequences. It may crush the copper post inside the screw hole or directly cause the screws to strip. Once the screws strip, they will no longer be able to be fixed firmly and will instead accelerate the chair's obsolescence. Therefore, when screwing the screws, grasp the correct force. When you feel significant resistance, rotate it slightly for about half a turn. This can not only ensure the fastening effect of the screws but also avoid damaging the chair components due to excessive force.
