What to Do If the Office Chair Is Too Short
Admin October 11, 2026
If the office chair is too short, you can choose the following solutions based on the type of chair:

I. Adjustable-height Office Chairs
- Use the Adjustment Lever: Locate the height-adjustment lever beneath or beside the seat (usually a black or silver metal lever). Lift or press the lever while gently pressing down or lifting up on the seat to adjust the height. Some chairs have a locking function on the lever; after adjustment, return the lever to its original position to secure the height.
- Check the Gas Lift Cylinder: If the adjustment lever fails, it may be due to a faulty gas lift cylinder (such as internal gas leakage or damage). Purchase a compatible gas lift cylinder (pay attention to parameters like weight capacity and diameter), remove the old one, and install the new one in its place. Release the seat pressure before operation to prevent the gas lift cylinder from popping out and causing injury.
- Adjust the Locking Mechanism: Check if the locking mechanism at the bottom of the chair is too tight or stuck. Try adjusting it to restore normal function and ensure the chair's height-adjustment feature works properly.
- Tighten Connectors: Check all screws and bolts for looseness and tighten them to prevent abnormal height or instability caused by loose connectors.
- Emergency Fixing Method: If you don't want to replace the gas lift cylinder temporarily, remove the fixing ring, find a PPR pipe of appropriate height, place it over the gas lift cylinder as support, and then reinstall the ring. However, the chair will no longer be adjustable in height afterward and is only a temporary solution.
II. Non-adjustable-height Office Chairs
- Use Specialized Height-increasing Pads: Purchase rubber or plastic chair-foot height-increasing pads and directly place or stick them on the bottom of the chair feet. They can stably raise the chair height by 2-5 centimeters and have the advantages of anti-slip and noise reduction.
- DIY Height Increase: Use materials at hand, such as cutting appropriate wooden blocks or thick fabric wrappers, and fix them to the chair feet with ropes. Ensure the height-increasing objects are firmly secured to prevent the chair from tipping over.
- Use Items for Height Increase: For example, use an empty Mizone bottle, cut off the top and bottom, and place it under the chair legs. You can adjust the height as needed. However, pay attention to the stability of the items to prevent sliding or tipping.
- Add Height-increasing Legs: There are specialized chair height-increasing legs available on the market, usually made of metal or plastic and very sturdy. Buy them and install them directly at the bottom of the chair, ensuring they are firmly secured during installation.
- Adjust the Chair-foot Scales: If there are scales at the bottom of the chair feet, try rotating them to adjust all four feet to the same scale for even height increase. After adjustment, check if all four feet are firmly on the ground and if the seat cushion is level.
- Replace the Chair: If the above methods are ineffective or affect safety, the most fundamental solution is to replace the chair with a new one that meets the height requirements.
