Office Chair Too Low
Admin October 09, 2026
If the office chair is too low, you can solve the problem by adjusting its height or fixing the sinking issue. Here are the specific methods:

I. Adjusting the Height of the Office Chair
- Operating the Height-Adjustable Chair:
- Locating the Control Device: While sitting on the chair, try pulling up the control lever to adjust the height. Some models may require turning a knob. If you are unsure about the operation method, you can read the user manual or try each lever one by one.
- Adjusting to a Comfortable Height: Move gently during operation, adjusting by a few inches (or centimeters) each time. After adjustment, return the lever to its original position. For pneumatic models, you can achieve height adjustment by repeatedly pumping the lever. If adjusting from a standing position, ensure that the front of the chair is just below your knees. At this point, you should be able to sit comfortably with your feet flat on the ground.
- Selecting the Appropriate Height:
- Computer Operation Scenario: Keep your eyes level with the monitor. If the monitor height is not adjustable, you need to adjust the seat height to meet your visual needs.
- Desktop Work Scenario: Keep your elbows at the height of the desktop to avoid having your arms hanging in the air or being overly bent.
- Long-Term Sitting Scenario: Adjust the chair height so that your feet are flat on the ground, reducing leg pressure.
- Enhancing Safety and Comfort: Change your sitting posture every 15 - 30 minutes, such as briefly leaning forward and then sitting up straight again, or adjusting the distribution of your body weight to avoid local muscle fatigue.
II. Fixing a Sinking Office Chair
If the chair cannot maintain its height due to quality issues (such as using an uncertified and low-quality gas rod), it may automatically sink due to thin tube walls and poor sealing. In this case, you can fix it using the following methods:
- Using a Hose Clamp: Fix the hose clamp on the outside of the gas rod. Tighten the clamp to limit the movement range of the gas rod and prevent further sinking.
- Installing a PVC Pipe: Select a PVC pipe with an inner diameter slightly larger than that of the gas rod. Cut it to an appropriate length and then slip it over the gas rod. Fix it with glue or fasteners to maintain the height through physical support.
Precautions: If the gas rod of the chair has air leaks, deformation, or severe wear, it is recommended to replace the parts that meet safety standards or replace the chair directly to avoid the risk of accidents caused by structural failure.
