Office Chair to Commode Chair Transformation
Currently, there is no universal direct method for transforming an office chair into a commode chair, but it can be achieved through structural modification principles combined with customized design, specifically adjusted according to the original structure of the office chair.

From existing cases, the design ideas of multifunctional seats can provide some reference. For example, the Hybrid Chair achieves rapid switching between an upright office chair and a recliner by using an additional wooden board to connect the seat and the backrest, and placing a rope connecting the backrest at the bottom of the seat. The essence of this design is to change the support form and function of the seat by adding adjustable connecting components. If this principle is applied to transforming an office chair into a commode chair, two core issues need to be addressed: first, the stability of the support structure. A commode chair usually requires a lower center of gravity and a wider seat surface to adapt to the toilet scenario, so it is necessary to add transverse supports or adjust the seat height based on the original frame of the office chair; second, the convenience of function conversion. Referring to the modular design of the Hybrid Chair, rapid switching between office and toilet modes can be achieved through detachable or foldable components (such as a reversible seat surface and a telescopic support frame).
The specific implementation should be carried out in steps: first, a detailed assessment of the original structure of the office chair is required, including the frame material (such as metal or plastic), the connection method (such as screw fixation or snap-fit connection), and the load-bearing capacity of the seat surface and the backrest; second, design a modification plan based on the assessment results. For example, if the frame is made of metal and has sufficient load-bearing capacity, consider adding a foldable support frame under the seat surface to lower the height or adding anti-slip designs at the edge of the seat surface to enhance safety; finally, conduct actual tests to ensure that the modified seat can be used stably in both modes and meets ergonomic requirements.
It should be noted that although there are customizable commode chair products on the market (with materials including stainless steel, metal, carbon steel, aluminum alloy, etc., and surface treatment methods such as brushing, polishing, spraying, and electroplating), these products are usually independently designed and have no direct relation to the modification of office chairs. They can only be used as references to understand the functional requirements and structural characteristics of commode chairs. If structural modifications are involved during the modification process, it is advisable to consult professionals to ensure safety.
