Office Chair That Converts to a Bed

Admin October 10, 2026

There are indeed office chairs and related products that can be converted into beds. These designs are primarily aimed at compact office or home environments, catering to both work and short-term rest needs.

Currently, there are two main types of office chairs on the market that can be expanded into temporary beds:

1. 180ยฐ Flat-Lying Ergonomic Chair
These products are represented by high-end ergonomic chairs, such as the Herman Miller Cosm high-back model. Their core design involves a multi-axis linkage mechanism that allows the chair back to be fully flattened, often paired with a retractable footrest module to create a nearly 180ยฐ flat resting space. These chairs focus on human support, with a backrest curve that conforms to the natural curvature of the spine, effectively dispersing body pressure when flattened, making them suitable for 1-2 hour short naps. However, due to the size limitations of the chair body, the sleeping area after expansion is typically around 60-70cm in width and about 180cm in length, making them more suitable for users of medium build.

2. Foldable Storage Bed-Chair Combo
Represented by Japan's NITORI multifunctional chair, these products achieve shape transformation through hidden mechanical structures. When not expanded, they resemble regular office chairs. By unlocking buckles and extending the seat surface, they can be quickly expanded into a simple bed measuring 1.2-1.5 meters. Their frames are mostly made of high-strength alloy steel, with a load-bearing capacity of over 150kg. The bed surface usually uses thickened foam or high-density elastic fabric to provide basic support. Some models are also equipped with detachable headrests and side storage pockets, making them suitable for overnight rest scenarios. However, they are relatively bulky when folded and require sufficient storage space.

Supplementary Option: Dedicated Folding Bed
If office space permits, a dedicated folding bed is a better choice. For example, the Aokefu folding bed-chair, when expanded, measures 180cm in length and 60cm in width, featuring a thickened steel frame and breathable Oxford fabric for stable load-bearing performance. Its backrest supports 6-level angle adjustments, meeting various needs for sitting, leaning, and lying down. When folded, it is only 15cm thick and can be placed upright against the wall. Some models are also equipped with privacy canopies and detachable cotton pads to further enhance the user experience.
