Office Chair Tips

Admin October 22, 2026

The tips for using office chairs mainly cover two aspects: cleaning and healthy usage. Here are the specific methods:

Cleaning

  • Hair removal from casters: The casters of office chairs often get entangled with hair, which affects their use and is unhygienic. You can use a very small pair of scissors to carefully cut and remove the tangled hair, avoiding damage to the casters.
  • Cleaning wheels with facial wipes: After dealing with the hair, wet a used facial wipe and let it air-dry. Use the textured side of the wipe to clean the wheels. Wrap the wipe around the wheel, secure it with a rubber band, and then sit on the chair and move back and forth to transfer the dirt from the wheel to the wipe. Repeat this process several times to clean the wheels thoroughly.
  • Using invisible tape for anti-slip and dirt reduction: Stick invisible tape on the wheels to prevent them from being too slippery and reduce the black marks left on the floor due to wheel rolling. When sticking the tape, do not make it too flat; keep it slightly wrinkled for better results.

Healthy Usage

  • Adjusting seat height: The appropriate seat height is crucial for leg health. Your feet should be able to rest flat on the ground, with the angle between your thighs and calves maintained between 95 and 100 degrees. If the chair is too high, use a footrest; if it is too low, it will increase the pressure on your knee joints, which may lead to joint problems over time.
  • Seating angle: Lean back slightly at an angle of about 100 to 110 degrees, allowing your entire back, especially your lower back, to fit snugly against the chair back. If the chair has a lumbar support, adjust it to the point where it properly supports the natural curve of your lumbar spine, reducing lower back pressure and preventing lower back diseases.
  • Armrest height: Adjust the armrest height so that when your elbows are naturally hanging down, your forearms can rest easily on the armrests or the desktop, with the angle between your upper and lower arms close to 100 degrees. This reduces shoulder and arm fatigue.
  • Monitor height: Elevate the monitor so that your line of sight is level with the top edge of the screen, avoiding prolonged neck flexion or extension while looking at the screen, reducing neck pressure and preventing cervical spondylosis.
  • Regular breaks: Take a break every 30 minutes to perform simple exercises such as hip joint stretching, lower back relaxation, and shoulder opening exercises. Use the chair to relax your body and relieve fatigue and muscle tension caused by prolonged sitting.
