Office Chair Tips

Admin October 12, 2026

Tips for using and maintaining office chairs mainly include healthy usage and posture adjustment, caster cleaning, hair removal from rollers, and seat adjustment, among others.

Healthy Usage and Posture Adjustment:
Adjust the seat height to ensure that your feet can rest flat on the ground, with the angle between your thighs and lower legs maintained between 95 and 100 degrees, ensuring a stable center of gravity. Recline your sitting posture slightly, approximately 100 to 110 degrees, allowing your entire back, especially your lower back, to fit snugly against the chair back, reducing lower back pressure. Adjust the armrest height so that when your elbows hang naturally, your forearms can rest easily on the armrests or desktop, with the angle between your upper and lower arms close to 100 degrees, avoiding arm suspension. Elevate your monitor so that your line of sight is level with the top edge of the screen, reducing neck extension. Take simple breaks every 30 minutes, such as hip stretches, lower back relaxation, and shoulder-opening exercises, to alleviate fatigue from prolonged sitting.

Caster Cleaning:
For hair entanglement issues, use very small scissors to handle it. After removing the hair, use a damp and air-dried face towel, with the textured side facing the wheels, wrap the towel around the wheels, and secure it with a rubber band. Sit on the chair and move it back and forth to clean the wheels. If you don't want to clean the floor frequently, you can stick invisible tape on the wheels to prevent them from being too slippery and facilitate replacement.

Hair Removal from Rollers:
First, turn the office chair upside down and hold the roller bracket with your hand, gently pulling out the roller outward (most office chair rollers are designed with snap-on mechanisms and do not require tools). If the roller is stuck tightly, use a flat-head screwdriver to gently pry the edge of the snap-on mechanism (pad with a soft cloth to avoid scratching the bracket). After removing the roller, place all rollers on a table and check each one for trapped hair and debris. Use tweezers to pick out long hairs and carpet fibers from the roller gaps one by one (follow the direction of roller rotation to avoid tighter hair entanglement), then use an old toothbrush dipped in a small amount of neutral detergent to gently scrub the roller surface and bearing gaps, removing residual dust and oil. Finally, rinse the rollers with water (avoid getting water into the bearings), dry them with a dry cloth, and let them air dry in a ventilated area for 10 minutes. After the rollers are dry, apply 1-2 drops of lubricant to the bearings (choose lubricant specifically for office equipment, avoid using cooking oil to prevent dust attraction), rotate the rollers by hand to distribute the lubricant evenly, then align the rollers with the bracket snap-on mechanism and gently push them in until you hear a 'click' sound, confirming that the rollers are securely installed. Finally, turn the office chair upright and push it to test if the rollers move smoothly. If there is still stuttering, check for any remaining debris that has not been cleaned.

Seat Adjustment:
When adjusting the seat, let your feet rest naturally on the ground with your thighs roughly parallel to the ground, ensuring a more stable center of gravity and providing a good foundation for your upper body posture. Once the seat height is appropriate, keep your back naturally straight, shoulders relaxed and spread, and your line of sight roughly level with the top edge of the screen, avoiding excessive neck extension. Also, keep your arms hanging naturally with your elbows roughly at a right angle, and ensure that the keyboard is not too high or too low, keeping your neck, shoulders, and lower back in a relaxed state.
