Office Chair Tilting While Rotating

Admin October 12, 2026

If your office chair tilts while rotating, you can troubleshoot and resolve the issue by following these steps:

1. Check the floor levelness
Ensure that the floor where the chair is placed is level. If the floor has dips or is uneven, it can cause the chair to tilt due to uneven force distribution. Solution: Place anti-slip pads under the chair or adjust the floor levelness to ensure that all four legs of the chair make even contact with the ground.

2. Inspect the chair's bottom structure
Check for any obvious damage or wear on the bottom of the chair, especially the components connecting the seat cushion to the base. If the base is deformed or broken, it can cause the chair's center of gravity to shift. Solution: Replace the damaged base components or contact the manufacturer for repairs.

3. Check the caster status

  • Wheel damage: Turn the chair upside down and inspect each caster for signs of bending, breaking, or wear. Casters can be damaged due to long-term use or uneven weight distribution. Solution: Purchase a replacement set that matches the original wheels (pay attention to the shape and size of the axles). It is recommended to replace all wheels rather than just one.
  • Installation issues: If some rollers are not fully inserted into the wheel slots, it can cause uneven force on the internal springs, resulting in jamming or height differences. Solution: Pull out the rollers and reinsert them vertically, listening for a 'click' sound to confirm full reset.

4. Recheck the installation

  • Loose screws: Check if all the screws on the base are tightened, especially the 5-6 load-bearing screws connecting the seat cushion to the base. Solution: Use a tool to evenly tighten all the screws to avoid local looseness.
  • Gas cylinder calibration: If the chair has a gas cylinder, confirm that the central lifting rod is vertically inserted into the base slot. Solution: Gently tap the top of the gas cylinder to help with calibration, ensuring it is perpendicular to the base.

5. Adjust the tilt resistance
Most swivel chairs have a knob-type damping adjuster (marked with a tilt angle icon) under the base. Solution: Rotate the knob clockwise to increase resistance and test sit at the maximum setting. If the chair still tilts, it may be due to displacement of the internal spring plate in the base, and you need to contact the merchant for replacement parts.

6. Check the seat plate integrity
If the above methods do not work, check if the seat plate is damaged. The seat plate is the square steel plate connecting the single-leg column to the seat cushion, located at the bottom of the seat. Solution: If the seat plate is deformed or broken, you need to replace the entire seat plate assembly.

Special case handling
If a new swivel chair still tilts after adjustment, use an electronic level to measure the tilt of the seat surface. If the reading exceeds 3ยฐ, you can apply for after-sales service with the test data. Safety tip: Using the chair in a tilted state may cause it to tip over. Be sure to stop using it until it is repaired.
