Office Chair Tilting Issue

Admin October 08, 2026

The core reason for an office chair tilting forward (tilting issue) lies in an imbalance in the support structure or design flaws, which can be resolved through targeted adjustments or component replacements. Here are the specific causes and solutions:

1. Structural Design Issues
Most office chairs are designed with a 5ยฐ-10ยฐ forward tilt angle to accommodate dynamic human body needs. However, excessive forward tilt may result from loose chassis screws or malfunctioning backrest spring adjustments. For example, if the M8 hex socket screw at the connection between the five-star base and the seat cushion is not tightened properly, it can cause a deviation in the fixed angle between the seat and the legs, leading to forward tilt. In this case, use a hex wrench to tighten the screw to the specified torque. If the backrest spring adjustment fails (e.g., due to spring aging or damper jamming), adjust the rebound force by rotating the backrest resistance knob (usually located at the bottom of the backrest) to restore balanced support between the backrest and the seat cushion.

2. Material Aging and Deformation
After prolonged use, nylon chair legs may deform by 1-3mm under pressure, causing the seat tilt to exceed standards. It is recommended to check the seat tilt with a level every six months. If the error exceeds the safety standard of 3ยฐ, replace the gas lift or seat. As a crucial support component, the lifespan of the gas lift is affected by usage frequency and load. For Class 3 gas lifts, replacement is recommended every 3-5 years. Prioritize components with an "SGS" certification stamp, as these have passed pressure and fatigue tests, reducing the risk of deformation. If the chair legs are severely deformed, replace the entire seat or frame.

3. Impact of Usage Habits
Users weighing over 90kg are more prone to forward tilt due to concentrated gravity. It is advisable to choose a reinforced chair frame with a bow-shaped chassis, as its thickened metal structure can distribute pressure more effectively. Habitual forward-leaning postures can cause an imbalance in the three-point force on the seat (buttocks, back of the knees, and feet). This can be addressed by adding an L-shaped seat support bracket (fixed under the seat) or upgrading the thickness of the rear explosion-proof steel plate (from 2mm to 3mm) to enhance stability. Additionally, the TUV certification standard for ergonomic chairs requires the forward tilt angle to withstand 100,000 dynamic swings during testing. When purchasing, check for the certification stamp on the inner side of the chair legs to ensure product durability. If the gas lift's travel range exceeds the standard by 4cm, the risk of forward tilt increases by 40%. Regularly check and adjust the gas lift's travel to a reasonable range.

Maintenance Advice: Regularly inspect screw tightness, gas lift condition, and seat tilt. Prioritize resolving issues through adjustments or replacing small components, which is more cost-effective than a complete replacement.
