Office Chair Tilting Forward
The issue of an office chair tilting forward can be troubleshot and resolved through the following methods:

1. Confirm if it is a design feature Some office chairs have a forward-tilting adjustment function. If the adjustment mechanism is not locked, it may cause unintended forward tilting. Check if there is a physical locking button or handle on the chair's base. If the forward-tilting function is not needed, you can turn it off using the locking mechanism. If the chair still tilts forward after locking, further investigation into other causes is required.
2. Check the condition of the connecting parts Prolonged use may cause the connecting screws between the five-star base and the seat cushion to rust, loosen, or strip. Turn the chair upside down and check if all connecting screws are tight. If necessary, use a wrench to tighten or replace the screws. If the screw holes are damaged, contact a professional repair technician.
3. Verify correct assembly If the backrest and seat cushion are connected in the wrong direction during self-assembly, it can result in an unstable state with the front higher than the back. Focus on checking the installation direction of the base and the seat cushion:
- Sit on the chair and look down to observe the position of the base adjustment handle. If the handle direction does not match the instructions (e.g., it should be on the right but is on the left), it indicates that the base may be installed backward.
- Turn the chair upside down, unscrew the connecting screws between the base and the seat cushion, rotate the base 180 degrees, and reinstall it to ensure that the handle position corresponds to its function.
4. Inspect the condition of the gas lift The gas lift is responsible for supporting the height of the seat. If the internal gas pressure is unstable or the gas lift is damaged, it may cause the front of the seat cushion to sink. Gently press down on the seat to test if the gas lift rebounds evenly. If there is any stuttering, abnormal noise, or sinking, contact the manufacturer to replace the gas lift. Do not disassemble the gas lift yourself to avoid the danger caused by high-pressure gas.
5. Adjust for ground suitability Soft carpets or uneven floors may cause the chair to tilt forward:
- If the chair is equipped with a wheel-locking function, try locking the front or rear wheels to increase stability.
- Place a wooden pad or a hard flat plate under the chair to balance the floor slope.
6. Replace damaged casters Bent or deformed casters can cause the chair's center of gravity to shift. Check if each caster rotates smoothly and is not deformed. If any damage is found, purchase new casters that match the original model for replacement. When replacing, use tools to unscrew the old casters and firmly install the new ones.
Additional adjustment steps:
- Seat cushion angle adjustment: Sit on the chair, find the base adjustment handle, and move your body's center of gravity slightly while pulling the handle to feel the change in the seat cushion angle. Adjust it to a horizontal position and then release the handle.
- Backrest linkage adjustment: If the forward tilting of the seat cushion is accompanied by an abnormal backrest angle, check the tilt locking lever under the seat. Pull up the lever to release the lock, lean back to adjust the backrest angle, and then pull up the lever again to lock it, ensuring that the backrest and seat cushion angles match.
