Office Chair Tilting Downwards

Admin October 10, 2026

The downward tilting of an office chair may be caused by issues with the bottom casters or the adjustment mechanism of the chair back and seat, and troubleshooting should be carried out according to the specific situation.

If the office chair tilts to one side as a whole, the bottom casters should be checked first. Place the chair upright and upside down to observe whether the wheels are on the same horizontal plane. If the casters are found to be bent, deformed, or damaged, the chair will tilt towards the direction of the damaged wheel. In this case, a set of new casters that match the original ones can be purchased for replacement to ensure that all four casters can make stable contact with the ground and restore the balance of the chair.

If the tilting problem involves the adjustment of the chair back and seat, it needs to be judged according to different tilting mechanisms.

  • Back-tilting mechanism: Only the chair back can recline independently, and the seat remains horizontally fixed. The adjustment button is usually the main lever under the seat, and the reclining angle of the chair back can be controlled by operating this lever.
  • Seat-tilting mechanism: The seat and the chair back tilt synchronously as a rigid unit, and the angle between them remains unchanged. The control device is mostly a lever. When tilting, the entire seat will move together, and users can achieve overall tilting adjustment of the seat by operating the lever.
  • Synchronous-tilting mechanism: The chair back and the seat are linked in a certain proportion to achieve a more ergonomic tilting trajectory. In addition to the main tilting locking lever, this type of chair usually also has an independent resistance adjustment knob on the back of the chair back or the base to adjust the force when reclining. Users can adjust the resistance to reclining according to their own needs through the adjustment knob to make the tilting of the seat more in line with personal habits.

The position of the tilting button on an office chair is not fixed. It is commonly located on the right side under the seat, usually a lever, or may appear as a knob on the side. If it is not found in the common positions, check the area under the seat, the sides, and the inner sides of the armrests in order. For example, theๅบ•็›˜ (chassis) back-reclining design of the Sihoo C500 second-generation ergonomic chair is comfortable and suitable for scenarios such as reclining to play games and take a nap. The position and operation method of its tilting adjustment device can be referred to in the product manual.
