Office Chair Tilt Repair Guide

Admin October 12, 2026

Tilted office chairs can be repaired by identifying the cause and applying targeted solutions. Common causes and repair methods are as follows:

1. Uneven ground or worn chair legs If the chair is placed on uneven ground or the chair legs are worn or deformed due to long-term use, the chair will tilt to one side. Repair methods:

  1. Adjust the height of the chair legs: Use rubber pads to elevate the shorter legs or use an angle grinder/sandpaper to grind down the longer legs, adjusting the leg length based on the horizontal plane of the chair seat; alternatively, use adjustable feet to fine-tune the height by rotating them to fit the ground.
  2. Replace or reinforce the foot pads: Check if the foot pads are aged or sunken, replace them with new ones or add anti-slip rubber pads underneath the original ones; for chairs with height adjustment functions, adjust the foot height individually using the knobs under the chair legs.
  3. Repair deformed chair legs: If the chair legs are locally deformed, gently tap them to adjust the shape or insert wooden wedges into the gaps at the joints for reinforcement.

2. Loose screws Loose screws at the connections between the armrests and the chassis can cause the chair to wobble or shift. Repair methods:

  1. Tighten the screws: Use a screwdriver or wrench to loosen the screws counterclockwise, add lubricant, and then tighten them clockwise, avoiding excessive force.
  2. Repair worn screw holes: If the screw holes are worn, use toothpicks or thin wooden sticks dipped in white glue to fill the holes, and then screw in the screws to reinforce them after the glue dries.

3. Faulty gas lift or chassis A damaged gas lift can cause the chair to lose balance, while a broken or aged chassis can cause wobbling. Repair methods:

  1. Replace the gas lift: Lift the chair to make the chair legsๆ‚ฌ็ฉบ (hang in the air), use a rubber mallet to knock the chair legs until the rubber joints fall off, disassemble the chair legs and chassis in sequence, and then replace the new gas lift (avoid knocking the gas lift directly).
  2. Handle hydraulic rod issues: If the hydraulic rod cannot rise, it may be due to internal blockage or insufficient hydraulic oil, requiring cleaning of the pipeline or addition of special hydraulic oil; if it cannot lower, it may be due to a broken spring, requiring replacement of the spring.
  3. Check the chassis: If the chassis is broken or the connection between the five-star feet is loose, contact after-sales service to replace the chassis.

4. Uneven seat cushion or backrest Sagging foam or improper adjustment of the backrest can cause the chair to feel tilted when sitting. Repair methods:

  1. Replace the foam: Lift the seat cushion to check the foam, if the middle is sagging, flip it over or replace it with high-density foam of the same size.
  2. Adjust the backrest: Adjust the angle of the reclining backrest to make the sitting posture more ergonomic; after adjustment, sit on the chair and shake it to test, and then fine-tune specific areas as needed.

If the above methods are ineffective, it is recommended to contact after-sales service for repair or replace the chair with a new one, especially for products with a long service life or design/manufacturing defects.
