Office Chair Tilt Repair

Admin October 12, 2026

Office chair tilt can be repaired through the following steps:

Check the Wheels and Ground

First, confirm whether each wheel foot is in contact with the ground when the chair is placed upright and upside down. Check if the wheel feet are bent, deformed, or damaged. If the ground is uneven, use rubber pads to elevate the shorter chair legs or use an angle grinder to grind down the longer ones. If the wheels are damaged, replace the entire set, ensuring that the shape and size of the wheel axles match.

Inspection and Replacement of the Gas Cylinder

Observe whether the gas cylinder is deformed or worn. Use your fingers to slide along the surface to check for any unevenness. Perform a rotation test; if the gas cylinder wobbles more than 2 centimeters, it needs to be replaced. When replacing, use a pipe wrench to secure the bottom of the gas cylinder, rotate it counterclockwise to remove the old one, and insert the new one vertically into the base hole and tighten it clockwise during installation.

Adjustment of the Base and Frame

If the base is cracked or aged, it needs to be replaced; tighten the screws if the connections of the five-star foot are loose. Turn the chair upside down and use a level to measure whether the five-claw frame is on the same plane. If not, use a rubber mallet to gently tap the raised parts to correct them. If the central axle is offset, add nylon washers at the bottom of the rotating axle for reinforcement.

Tightening and Lubrication of Screws

Tighten all visible screws. If the screw holes are worn, use a toothpick dipped in white glue for reinforcement. Apply spray lubricant (such as WD-40) to the socket of the chair base or apply petroleum jelly to reduce the resistance when pulling out the wheels.

Handling of Wheel Issues

Conduct a single-wheel load-bearing test. If the sinkage exceeds 2 cm, replacement is required. Remove the stuck wheels, spray WD-40 on the bearing parts, and rotate the wheel axles for lubrication. Use an adjustable wrench to adjust the angle of the wheel seats to ensure that the wheels are evenly distributed in a radial pattern.

Overall Balance Adjustment

Use a three-point load-bearing test method. Place a 25 kg weight on the seat and observe whether the tilt angle is โ‰ค 3 degrees. Perform dynamic balance adjustment by rotating the chair to feel for any sticking points and add stainless steel washers at the connections of the frame in the corresponding directions.

Repair of Other Components

If the armrests are unbalanced, inspect the gears of the height adjuster, tighten the fixing screws, and repair the filling. If the hydraulic rod cannot be raised or lowered, clean the pipeline or add special hydraulic oil. If the spring is broken, it needs to be replaced.

Precautions: Turn the chair upside down to release pressure before repairing and avoid directly hitting the gas cylinder. If the problem is complex or the components are severely damaged, it is recommended to contact professional repair personnel.
