Office Chair Tilt Function

Admin October 09, 2026

The tilt functions and adjustment methods of office chairs mainly fall into three categories: tilt issue repair, backrest forward tilt adjustment, and recline adjustment, as detailed below:

Tilt Issue Repair

If an office chair tilts to one side, it is usually caused by issues with the bottom casters or the floor. Bent, deformed casters or an uneven floor are common causes. It is necessary to first check whether the wheels are damaged. If the wheels are damaged, new wheels that match the original ones can be purchased for replacement. Ensure that all four wheels are at the same height and in contact with a flat floor to restore the chair's balance.

Backrest Forward Tilt Adjustment

Some high-end ergonomic chairs (such as the Moga T1 Smart Ergonomic Chair) support a backrest forward tilt function. The forward tilt angle is usually infinitely adjustable within 12ยฐ. Users can adjust it to any angle according to their needs and lock it precisely. This function is specifically designed for a forward-leaning office posture, which can relieve neck and back pressure from prolonged desk work and is suitable for scenarios such as drawing and writing that require a forward-leaning body position.

Recline Adjustment

The recline function varies depending on the chair's grade, and the adjustment methods include lever, knob, and pneumatic systems:

  • Lever Adjustment System: Commonly found in mid-range and high-end office chairs. The adjustment lever is usually located on the right or left side under the seat. The operation steps are as follows:

    1. Release the recline lock (pull up or push the lever);
    2. Lean back and simultaneously adjust the lever to bring the backrest to a comfortable angle;
    3. When locking is required, pull up or push the lever again to fix the position.
      Some chairs support multi-position locking, allowing users to choose a fixed angle according to their needs.
  • Knob Adjustment System: Mostly used in ergonomic chairs. The knob is usually located near the central pillar at the bottom of the seat, and its functions are divided into two categories:

    1. Resistance Adjustment: Turning the knob clockwise increases the recline resistance, while turning it counterclockwise decreases it to accommodate users of different weights;
    2. Angle Adjustment: Some chairs are equipped with a separate knob that can directly control the recline angle range.
      Adjust slowly to avoid sudden changes in resistance that may cause discomfort.
  • Pneumatic Adjustment System: Common in modern office chairs, where the pneumatic lever is integrated with the height adjustment lever. By pushing the lever forward or backward, smooth recline adjustment can be achieved, and some models support angle locking. This system is easy to operate and is suitable for users who need to frequently adjust the recline angle.

Adjustment Precautions:

  1. When reclining, ensure that the chair's center of gravity is not too far back to prevent tipping over;
  2. Choose the angle according to the usage scenario: select a smaller angle (5ยฐ-10ยฐ) for focused work and a larger angle (15ยฐ-30ยฐ) for relaxation;
  3. Avoid maintaining the same recline angle for a long time and adjust regularly to reduce muscle fatigue.
