Office Chair Threading Techniques
Admin October 12, 2026
For threading an office chair, you can refer to the threading method of a folding stool. Here are the specific techniques and precautions:

I. Threading Steps
- Initial Threading: Insert the thread into the starting hole at one end of the chair, leaving half of the thread length for subsequent operations. Ensure that the lengths of the threads at both ends are balanced to provide operating space for subsequent threading.
- Cross-Threading: Thread from the back of the second hole on the opposite side to the first hole, and then thread back through the third hole on the opposite side to form a cross structure. Pay attention to the threading direction in this step to avoid thread entanglement or misalignment.
- Circular Threading: Return from the back of the third hole to the second hole, then thread through the first hole on the opposite side from the second hole, and then insert it into the second hole from the back of the first hole. Repeat this cycle and thread in a fixed order to ensure that the hole positions at each step correspond accurately.
- Finishing Treatment: When threading to the end, complete the threading of the last hole positions according to the illustrated order. The thread reserved at the other end is wrapped around the thread of the second hole, inserted into the second hole on the opposite side from the first hole, and continuously threaded to the end so that the two threads come out of the same hole. Finally, tie a knot at the back to secure it.
II. Material and Tool Selection
- Thread Selection: Prioritize the use of threads that are wear-resistant, stretch-resistant, and have good flexibility, such as nylon threads or polyester threads. These types of threads can withstand the tension when the chair is in use and prevent structural loosening due to breakage.
- Tool Preparation: Use a steel needle to assist in threading. Its slender shape makes it easy to pass through small holes. A hammer can be used to gently tap the steel needle to help the thread pass through tighter hole positions. A clip can be used to fix the thread end to prevent it from slipping off during operation.
III. Safety and Operation Specifications
- Protective Measures: Wear gloves during operation to avoid being scratched by the steel needle or clip. Keep your hands away from the sharp ends when using tools to prevent accidental punctures.
- Length Control: Select a thread that is slightly longer than the circumference of the chair's seat support according to its size. A thread that is too short will make threading difficult, while a thread that is too long may affect the structural stability due to excess thread ends.
- Avoid Entanglement: Keep the thread flat during the threading process to avoid crossing or knotting. If thread entanglement is found, adjust it in a timely manner; otherwise, it may affect subsequent steps or result in an unstable structure.
IV. Key Details
- Hole Position Correspondence: Each step of threading must be carried out strictly in order to ensure that the hole positions of the thread on both sides of the chair are symmetrical. If the hole positions are misaligned, it may cause uneven force on the chair and shorten its service life.
- Secure Knotting: When finishing and knotting, pull the thread ends tight to ensure that the knots are firm. You can repeat the knotting or use glue to fix the knot ends to prevent loosening after long-term use.
