National Standards for Office Chair Testing

Admin October 16, 2026

The national standards related to office chair testing mainly include GB/T 38733-2020, GB/T 10357.3-2025, and QB/T 2280-2016. Here is a detailed introduction:

GB/T 38733-2020, 'Office Furniture - Office Chairs - Dimensional Measurement Methods,' was released on April 28, 2020, and officially implemented on November 1, 2020. This standard primarily focuses on the measurement methods for dimensions related to office chairs, providing a unified and accurate basis for measuring the dimensional specifications of office chairs. It ensures that office chairs produced by different manufacturers are comparable and consistent in terms of dimensions, helping to guarantee the quality and applicability of office chairs.

GB/T 10357.3-2025, 'Furniture - Mechanical Test Methods - Part 3: Strength and Durability of Chairs and Stools,' is currently in effect. This standard focuses on specifying test methods for the strength and durability of chairs and stools. For office chairs, the test methods outlined in this standard can be used to assess their strength performance and durability under various external forces during long-term use, thereby determining whether the office chairs can meet daily usage requirements and ensuring their service life and safety.

QB/T 2280-2016, 'Office Furniture - Office Chairs,' applies to indoor work chairs and covers a wide range of aspects, including terms and definitions, product classification, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and marking, packaging, transportation, and storage. In terms of testing requirements, it includes basic indicators such as main dimensions, lifting travel, backrest eccentricity, shape symmetry, left-right level deviation of the seat surface, and ground stability. It also covers material-related indicators such as the density of soft polyurethane foam, wood moisture content, and formaldehyde emission from artificial board components, as well as process indicators such as appearance requirements, adhesion of coatings and soft/hard coverings on wooden parts, impact resistance of coatings and coverings on wooden parts, salt spray resistance of metal coatings, and adhesion of metal coatings. Additionally, it includes mechanical performance indicators such as stability, seat surface impact, combined static load tests for the seat and backrest, vertical downward static load tests for armrests, horizontal static load tests for armrests, and static load tests for the base.
