Office Chair Testing

Admin October 12, 2026

Office chair testing primarily focuses on safety, durability, and long-term user experience, encompassing a range of rigorous tests such as impact, load, rotation, and anti-fatigue tests to ensure product performance meets standards.

Safety and durability testing of office chairs is a core aspect. Taking the BIFMA X5.11 standard as an example, its testing intensity far exceeds domestic standards. For instance, when the Qingxian Maxis Pro passes this certification, it must withstand an impact from a 113kg weight, followed by a repeated impact from a 159kg weight to simulate structural stability under extreme usage scenarios. Additionally, load testing requires the chair to tilt 300,000 times under a weight of 159kg and rotate 60,000 times under a weight of 181kg to verify the durability of key components such as gas lifts, five-star bases, and wheels. These tests ensure that the chair will not pose safety hazards due to structural loosening or material fatigue during long-term use.

Long-term user experience testing focuses on support stability and performance degradation. Some brands, such as SumLush, conduct performance anti-fatigue tests lasting up to six years. By simulating daily usage scenarios such as changes in sitting posture and distribution of body weight pressure, they evaluate the degradation of support force in components such as the backrest, seat cushion, and armrests. For example, the backrest must maintain elasticity under long-term load to avoid insufficient lumbar support due to foam collapse or mesh sagging; the seat cushion must resist deformation to prevent fatigue caused by concentrated pressure on the buttocks; the armrests must remain accurately positioned after frequent adjustments to ensure stable arm support. These tests directly relate to the long-term comfort and health of users.

The test results provide guidance for product optimization. Through impact testing, issues such as insufficient sealing of the gas lift or welding defects in the five-star base can be identified, prompting manufacturers to improve materials or processes; through load testing, problems such as wheel bearing wear or gas lift lifting stutter can be recognized, driving component upgrades; through anti-fatigue testing, the foam density or mesh weaving process can be optimized to extend product lifespan. Ultimately, these tests collectively ensure that office chairs meet high standards of performance in terms of safety, durability, and practical use.
