Office Chair, Table and Plants
Admin October 10, 2026
There is a wide variety of plants suitable for office desks. The following recommendations are made from three dimensions: ease of maintenance, functionality, and aesthetics:

I. Easy-to-Maintain Plants
- Cactus/Cacti: As succulents, their fleshy stems can store a large amount of water, making them highly drought-tolerant and suitable for office workers who often forget to water. It is recommended to choose round varieties (such as Golden Barrel Cactus) to avoid excessive spines affecting safety. When maintaining, avoid waterlogging, water 1-2 times a month, and place them in a well-lit area.
- Snake Plant: With thick, sword-shaped leaves, it is highly shade-tolerant and only requires scattered light to grow. Its characteristic of releasing oxygen at night makes it suitable for enclosed office environments. Follow the principle of "better dry than wet" when watering, once a month is enough. For newly renovated offices, 2-3 pots can be placed to help remove formaldehyde.
- Peperomia obtusifolia: Its round leaves resemble jade and are suitable for placing beside the computer to relieve visual fatigue. When maintaining, water thoroughly after the soil surface is completely dry, apply a small amount of slow-release fertilizer once a month, and avoid direct sunlight from south-facing windowsills that may scorch the leaves.
II. Functional Plants
- Money Tree: A woody plant that is evergreen throughout the year, its leaves can absorb volatile organic compounds such as formaldehyde and benzene. It is recommended to choose small potted plants (height 30-50cm), water once a week and keep the area well-ventilated to avoid root rot.
- Philodendron selloum: With large, heart-shaped leaves, its formaldehyde absorption efficiency per unit area is three times that of pothos. It can also increase air humidity through transpiration, making it suitable for use in air-conditioned rooms. Keep the soil slightly moist and avoid direct strong light.
- Mother-in-law's Tongue: Its leaves are covered with pores and can continuously purify the air 24 hours a day, suitable for scenarios where work and living spaces overlap (such as home offices). It is extremely drought-tolerant and only needs to be watered once every 2-3 weeks.
III. Aesthetic Plants
- Asparagus Fern: With slender branches and leaves resembling clouds, it has a natural bonsai charm and is suitable for enhancing office style. Place it in a well-lit area with scattered light, keep the soil moist but avoid waterlogging, and control the plant shape through pruning.
- White Phalaenopsis Orchid: With an elegant flower shape resembling a butterfly and a flowering period of 2-3 months, it is suitable as a focal point plant on the desk. When maintaining, use a well-drained medium (such as sphagnum moss), keep the air humidity above 60%, and avoid low temperatures (below 10ยฐC).
- Calathea orbifolia: Its round leaves have clear veins resembling apple textures and are suitable for modern minimalist-style offices. Maintain a high-humidity environment (spray daily) and avoid strong light that may cause the leaf edges to scorch.
Extended Options: If space allows, consider Fiddle Leaf Fig (large leaves enhance the sense of space hierarchy), Araucaria (shade-tolerant coniferous tree creating a natural atmosphere) or Pine (with a natural fragrance to refresh the mind). Note that plants should be selected according to lighting conditions. For north-facing windows, shade-tolerant varieties (such as Snake Plant) are recommended, while for south-facing windows, light-loving plants (such as Cactus) can be chosen.
