Office Chair and Table Disassembly

Admin October 12, 2026

The disassembly of office chairs and tables requires selecting appropriate methods based on their structural characteristics, and paying attention to tool usage and safety precautions. The specific operations are as follows:

I. Steps for Disassembling Office Chairs

  1. Ordinary Office Chairs with Casters

    • Invert the Chair: Turn the chair upside down so that the base faces upwards, facilitating access to the connection between the gas cylinder and the base.
    • Loosen the Connecting Screws: Use an Allen wrench to loosen the fixing screws between the base and the gas cylinder. If the screws are rusty, add a small amount of lubricating oil (such as WD-40), let it sit for 10 minutes, and then try again. Avoid forcing the screws to prevent stripping.
    • Separate the Components: Once the screws are loose, gently separate the base from the gas cylinder. Be cautious as the gas cylinder may suddenly pop out due to internal pressure, so operate slowly.
  2. Special-Structured Office Chairs (e.g., Executive Chairs, Ergonomic Chairs)

    • Release the Gas Pressure Device: If the chair has adjustable armrests or other gas-pressure functions, first press the gas cylinder to release the internal pressure before disassembling the relevant components.
    • Use Pliers for Assisted Disassembly: Some ergonomic chairs have a quick-release structure for the gas cylinder. Use special pliers to grip the gas cylinder and pull it out directly or rotate it to separate it without the need for tools.

II. Steps for Disassembling Office Tables

  1. Observe the Overall Structure

    • Most office tables adopt a modular design. Before disassembly, identify the connection methods between the tabletop, supports, drawers, and other components (e.g., screw fixation, snap-fit connections).
  2. Separate the Tabletop from the Supports

    • Work in Pairs: If the tabletop is heavy, it is recommended that two people jointly support the edges of the tabletop, lift it slowly, and tilt it to avoid sudden dropping, which could injure the feet or damage the components.
    • Loosen the Fixing Screws: Use a Phillips/flat-head screwdriver or an electric screwdriver (set to low torque) to loosen the connecting screws between the tabletop and the supports. Store the screws in sealed bags in order and mark their corresponding positions (e.g., 'Left Support - Screw A').
  3. Disassemble the Drawers and Accessories

    • Drawers are usually fixed by slide rails. First, pull the drawer out to its maximum travel, find the fixing screws at the end of the slide rails, and loosen them. Then, remove the entire drawer.
    • Keyboard trays, cable troughs, and other accessories should be disassembled separately to avoid losing small parts.

III. Tools and Safety Precautions

  1. Basic Tools

    • A set of Phillips/flat-head screwdrivers, an adjustable wrench (for hexagonal screws), a rubber mallet (for gently tapping snap-fit parts), and a spirit level (for adjusting the flatness of the tabletop during installation).
    • For special screws (e.g., Torx-head, star-shaped), prepare the corresponding screwdriver bits in advance. An electric screwdriver can improve efficiency, but control the torque to prevent screw stripping.
  2. Safety Precautions

    • When tapping connecting parts, place a soft cloth (such as a towel) on the contact surface to avoid leaving marks or damaging the surface.
    • Keep the working environment clean during disassembly and promptly clean up debris to prevent slipping or cuts.
