Sweat Stains on Office Chairs

Admin October 08, 2026

The cleaning of sweat stains on office chairs requires choosing appropriate methods based on the material. There are differences in the cleaning steps for mesh and genuine leather materials.

Cleaning Steps for Mesh Office Chairs:

  1. Comprehensive Dust Removal: Use the crevice tool of a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly remove dust, hair, and other particles from the surface and crevices of the mesh. This step can prevent secondary dust pollution or fiber scratches during subsequent cleaning.
  2. Spray Cleaning Agent: Dilute a neutral cleaning agent in a ratio of 1:10 and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray it evenly on the mesh surface, focusing on the areas with sweat stains. A neutral cleaning agent can avoid corroding the fibers while effectively decomposing the proteins and salts in sweat.
  3. Let It Stand for Decomposition: Allow the cleaning agent to stay on the mesh for 10-20 minutes to make the stains detach from the inside of the fibers. In hot and humid environments (such as Shenzhen), the standing time can be appropriately shortened to 8-15 minutes to prevent the growth of bacteria due to cleaning agent residue.
  4. Gently Brush: Use a soft-bristled brush to gently brush along the texture of the mesh. For stubborn stains, you can apply a little more force but avoid excessive force that may cause fiber breakage. If the sweat stains have turned yellow or black, you can repeat the spraying of the cleaning agent and extend the brushing time.
  5. Deep Extraction (Optional): Use a high-temperature cleaning machine to extract the mesh. Remove deep-seated stains and cleaning agent residue simultaneously through high-pressure water flow and suction. This step can significantly reduce the growth of bacteria and mites, but ensure that the equipment temperature does not exceed 60ยฐC to avoid mesh deformation.
  6. Thorough Drying: After using a clean towel to absorb excess moisture, place the chair in a well-ventilated area to dry naturally. In the hot and humid environment of Shenzhen, it is recommended to use a hairdryer on the cool or low-temperature setting to assist in drying, but keep a distance of 20-30 centimeters to avoid mesh shrinkage or aging due to direct high-temperature blowing.

Cleaning Steps for Genuine Leather Office Chairs:

  1. Daily Cleaning: Gently wipe the surface with a soft dry cloth or a slightly damp soft cloth (with a humidity level that does not drip) to remove sweat stains and dust. Avoid using organic solvents such as alcohol and gasoline to prevent the leather from cracking.
  2. Deep Cleaning:
    • First, use a vacuum cleaner to clean the dust in the folds and crevices to prevent stains from penetrating into the leather pores.
    • Spray a special genuine leather cleaning agent on the leather surface and let it stand for 1-2 minutes to soften the stains.
    • Gently brush in small circles with a soft-bristled brush, focusing on the easily dirty parts such as seams. Keep the brushing force even to avoid scratching the leather.
    • Wipe dry with a clean microfiber towel to ensure there is no cleaning agent residue. If the leather surface has an odor, you can spray a small amount of leather conditioner after wiping dry to form a protective film and inhibit the growth of bacteria.
