Office Chair Sweat Odor

Admin October 08, 2026

Sweat odor on office chairs can be resolved through ventilation and airing, adsorption and purification, neutralization and cleaning, and other methods.

  1. Ventilation and Airing
Open windows to promote air circulation, which can accelerate the diffusion of free odor molecules. On sunny days, move the chair outside to bask in the sun for 1-2 hours, using ultraviolet rays to kill bacteria and decompose odors. Note: The sunbathing time for leather or delicate fabric chairs should not be too long to avoid fading, hardening, or cracking of the material.

  2. Adsorption and Purification

    • Baking Soda: Sprinkle baking soda powder evenly on the surface of fabric cushions and let it sit for several hours to 48 hours to fully absorb odors, then vacuum it up. Alternatively, place an open container filled with baking soda around and in the crevices of the chair to continuously absorb odor molecules in the air. For dry application, sprinkle baking soda powder on the dry seat surface, let it sit for 3-4 hours or overnight, and then vacuum it up.
    • Activated Carbon: Activated carbon has strong adsorption capabilities and can be placed under the seat or in crevices. Sunbathe it every 3 months to restore its adsorption performance and reduce residual odor molecules.
  3. Neutralization and Cleaning

    • White Vinegar Water Wiping: Mix white vinegar with water in a 1:1 ratio, dip a soft cloth into the mixture, wring it out until slightly damp, and thoroughly wipe the surface of the chair (especially areas that come into contact with the skin). Then, use a clean damp cloth to wipe away any residual vinegar smell and place the chair in a well-ventilated area to dry completely.
    • Specialized Cleaners: For fabric seats, spray with foam cleaner or specialized cleaner and gently brush with a soft-bristled brush. For leather seats, use a specialized leather cleaner that can both remove dirt and protect the leather. Leather chairs can also be cleaned with a mild cleaner and soft brush to remove dirt and bacteria, thoroughly rinsed and dried, or cleaned deeply into the pores of suede with a vacuum cleaner/damp cloth.
  4. Other Methods

    • Lemon Essential Oil Wiping: Dilute lemon essential oil with water in a 1:1 ratio and wipe the leather surface to kill bacteria and remove sweat and other odors.
    • High-Temperature Ironing: If the odor is caused by mold or dampness, use a high-temperature steam iron to gently iron, but pay attention to safety and avoid direct contact with the skin.
    • Spraying Fragrant Spray: Choose a fragrant spray with a refreshing effect and spray it in an appropriate amount to kill bacteria and deodorize, improving air quality.
