Office Chair Sway Fix

Admin October 16, 2026

The sway of an office chair can be fixed by locking the tilt function, checking and tightening connection parts, using glue for fixation, inspecting the internal structure, or applying temporary fixes.

  1. Locking the Tilt Function
If the office chair has a tilt-locking function, you can achieve fixation by adjusting the control components beneath the seat. First, lean forward and observe the right side or the side of the seat to locate the handle, lever, or knob.
  • Handle/Lever Locking: Typically located on the right side beneath the seat, pull the handle backward (or upward) to unlock it. After reclining the chair back to the desired angle, release the handle to lock it.
  • Knob Adjustment System: Located at the center bottom of the seat, some models have knobs that also serve a locking function. You may need to rotate the knob to a specific position or use a method like โ€œpull out the knob to adjust the angle, then press it back in to lock.โ€
  • Push-Pull Button Type: The button may be set independently or integrated beside the handle. Pull the button outward to unlock it, adjust to the desired angle, and then press the button inward to lock.
  1. Checking and Tightening Connection Parts
If the tilt function is normal but the chair back still wobbles, check if the screws at the connection between the backrest and the seat are loose. Tighten the screws with a screwdriver. If the screws are stripped or damaged, replace them with new ones. Additionally, you can add rubber gaskets at the connection points to reduce looseness by increasing friction.

  2. Using Glue for Fixation
For larger gaps at the connection, you can apply strong glue to the joint between the backrest and the seat. Once the glue dries, it will provide some stability. However, be aware that glue fixation may affect future disassembly and repair, so it is advisable to try other methods first.

  3. Inspecting the Internal Structure
If the chair back wobbles due to damage to the internal support structure (such as loose or broken wooden strips or metal rods), you will need to disassemble the backrest for inspection. When loose parts are found, secure them with screws or glue; if parts are broken, replace them with new components.

  4. Temporary Fixes
In emergencies, you can use ropes or cloth strips to wrap around and secure the backrest to the main body of the seat for temporary stability. However, this method is only suitable for short-term use; for long-term solutions, other methods should be employed to thoroughly resolve the issue.
