Office Chair Surface Tilt
The tilt of an office chair surface may be caused by design characteristics or malfunctions, and troubleshooting should be carried out according to the specific situation.

Tilt within Normal Design Range
There are usually two design options for the tilt angle of an office chair seat surface: The traditional standard is a 2ยฐ~5ยฐ backward tilt, and the recommended value that better meets dynamic office needs is 0ยฐ~5ยฐ, allowing for a horizontal or moderately forward tilt, with a 3ยฐ-5ยฐ forward tilt considered the most ideal. This design can effectively reduce pressure on the back of the thighs, help maintain the natural physiological curve of the spine, and reduce the risk of lumbar muscle strain. If the tilt angle is within this range, it is a normal design characteristic and no adjustment is required.
Malfunction Causes and Handling of Abnormal Forward Tilt
If the chair shows excessive forward tilt (beyond the design range), the core reasons are mostly an imbalance in the support structure or design defects:
- Loose chassis screws: Most office chairs come with a 5ยฐ-10ยฐ forward tilt angle, but excessive forward tilt may be caused by loose chassis screws. In this case, tighten the M8 hexagon socket screws at the connection between the five-claw wheel and the seat cushion to restore structural stability.
- Failure of the chair back spring adjustment: A malfunction in the chair back resistance adjustment device may lead to uncontrolled forward tilt. You can adjust the chair back resistance knob to increase the chair back support force and balance the forward and backward tilt angles.
- Material aging and deformation: After long-term use, the nylon chair legs may deform by 1-3mm due to pressure, causing the chair surface to tilt. It is recommended to use a level gauge to check the tilt of the chair surface every six months. If the error exceeds the safety standard of 3ยฐ, replace the gas rod or seat cushion to avoid safety hazards caused by structural instability.
Malfunction Causes and Handling of Lateral Tilt
If the chair tilts to one side, it may be caused by the following reasons:
- Deformed wheel feet: If the wheel feet at the bottom of the chair are bent or damaged, it will result in uneven contact with the ground. Check whether each wheel foot is in contact with the ground and observe for signs of breakage or wear. If the wheel feet are damaged, it is recommended to purchase a set of new wheels that match the original chair for replacement to restore balance.
- Uneven ground: When the chair is placed on an uneven ground surface, it may tilt due to insufficient local support. In this case, adjust the position of the chair, choose a flat ground surface for placement, or use a special chair pad to fill in the ground depressions.
