Replacement of Office Chair Surface

Admin October 09, 2026

The steps for replacing the mesh surface of an office chair are as follows:

I. Preparing Tools and Materials

  1. Tools: Choose a Phillips or flat-head screwdriver and a wrench based on the type of screws on the chair surface; if additional fixation is needed, prepare rubber bands or zip ties.
  2. Materials: Purchase a new mesh chair surface that exactly matches the size and mounting hole positions of the original one. If the original chair surface comes with a foam pad or backing plate that has aged, it is recommended to replace them simultaneously to enhance comfort.
  3. Special Cases: If the office chair is refurbished from a used car seat, ensure the source is compliant and the base is well-adapted. The refurbishment cost is approximately 300-500 yuan, but it is crucial to check the stability of the base to avoid safety hazards due to insufficient load-bearing capacity.

II. Removing the Old Mesh Chair Surface

  1. Lay the Chair Down: Turn the office chair upside down so that the bottom faces up for easier operation.
  2. Locate the Screws: The screws connecting the chair surface to the chassis are usually located at the four corners or edges beneath the chair surface; some designs may hide them under decorative covers. If decorative covers are present, gently pry them open with a screwdriver or flat tool.
  3. Unscrew the Screws: Use the corresponding screwdriver to unscrew each screw one by one and store them by position (e.g., number them in the order of the four corners) to avoid confusion during subsequent installation.
  4. Detach the Snaps: If the chair surface is connected to the backrest with snaps, gently press both sides of the snaps while lifting the chair surface upwards to separate it from the backrest. Apply even force during operation to avoid breaking the snaps.

III. Installing the New Mesh Chair Surface

  1. Align the Holes: Place the new chair surface on top of the chassis and ensure the mounting holes are perfectly aligned. If the holes do not match, replace it with an adapted model; forcing installation may cause the chair surface to loosen or be damaged.
  2. Secure the Screws: Tighten the screws following the โ€œdiagonal fixationโ€ principle (tighten the diagonal screws first, then the others) to prevent the chair surface from tilting due to uneven force. Apply moderate force when tightening to avoid stripping the screws.
  3. Tighten the Mesh: If the new chair surface comes with elastic bands or pull cords, evenly tighten them and secure them to the hooks on the edge of the chassis to ensure the mesh is flat without wrinkles. Adjust the tension of the elastic bands or use zip ties for additional fixation if necessary.
  4. Connect the Backrest: Align the snaps on the chair surface with those on the backrest and gently press until you hear a โ€œclickโ€ sound, indicating proper installation. Check if the snaps are fully closed to avoid detachment during use.

Precautions: Keep the working environment clean during the operation to avoid losing small parts; if unfamiliar with the structure, it is recommended to take photos before disassembly as a reference; after installation, test sit to check the stability.
