Office Chair Surface Adjustment

Admin October 10, 2026

The reclining adjustment methods for office chair surfaces vary depending on the chair type and adjustment mechanism. Common adjustment methods are as follows:

There are differences in the reclining adjustment functions of different types of office chairs. Basic office chairs usually only support seat height adjustment. Their reclining function is limited, often only allowing for slight angle changes without the ability to lock a specific reclined position. Mid-range office chairs have basic reclining adjustment functions, mostly controlled by levers or knobs, enabling a certain degree of recline and position locking. High-end ergonomic chairs offer more comprehensive adjustment options, including seat height, reclining angle, lumbar support, and armrest height. Some models also support multi-position reclining locking and dynamic resistance adjustment.

There are three common types of reclining adjustment mechanisms. Lever adjustment systems are commonly found in mid-range office chairs. The adjustment lever is usually located on the right or left side under the seat. To use it, first locate the lever, release the reclining lock (some chairs require the lever to be moved up or down), then lean back to a comfortable angle, and finally operate the lever again to lock the position. If the chair is equipped with multi-position locking, different angles can be switched by repeating the lever operation. Knob adjustment systems are often seen in high-end ergonomic chairs. The knob is generally located near the central support column at the bottom of the seat. Turning it clockwise increases the backrest's reclining resistance, suitable for scenarios where a fixed reclining angle is needed; turning it counterclockwise reduces the resistance, making reclining easier. Some chairs have a separate knob for adjusting the range of reclining angles, and specific operations should refer to the product manual. Pneumatic adjustment systems are often integrated with the height adjustment lever. Reclining adjustment is achieved by pushing the lever in different directions. For example, pushing the lever forward may increase the reclining resistance, while pushing it backward reduces it. The adjustment process is smoother, suitable for users who need to frequently adjust the reclining force.

When making adjustments, safety precautions should be taken. Before operation, ensure the chair is in a stable state to avoid sudden movement or tilting during adjustment. When adjusting the reclining angle, lean back slowly and test whether the locking function is reliable. If the chair is equipped with lumbar support adjustment, it is recommended to adjust it simultaneously to maintain the natural curve of the spine.
