Office Chair Support Rod

Admin October 13, 2026

The office chair support rod is a key component used to adjust the seat height and the backrest's recline force, typically including a height adjustment rod, recline force control rod, and gas lift rod, among other accessories.

I. Height Adjustment Rod The height adjustment rod is one of the core components of the office chair support rod, usually located on the right side of the seat. Its function is to enable flexible adjustment of the seat height through pneumatic or mechanical structures. When in use, users can simply lift the rod slightly to raise the seat and press down to lower it. The scientific adjustment standard is that the seat height is most comfortable when the knees are naturally bent at a 90-degree angle and the feet are flat on the ground. This design conforms to ergonomic principles and can effectively reduce fatigue from prolonged sitting. Some high-end office chairs' height adjustment rods also come with a locking function, allowing users to press and fix the height once adjusted to prevent accidental changes during use.

II. Recline Force Control Rod The recline force control rod is generally located on the left side of the seat and is responsible for adjusting the tilt resistance of the backrest. Pulling the rod upward unlocks the backrest, allowing it to recline backward; pressing the rod downward locks the position once the desired angle is found. Some advanced office chairs further optimize this function by incorporating a knob or lever structure to achieve stepless adjustment of the recline tightness, meeting the needs of users with different weights. For example, users with lighter weights can loosen the resistance to make the backrest recline more easily, while users with heavier weights can tighten the resistance to prevent the backrest from pressing down too much.

III. Gas Lift Rod and Other Accessories The gas lift rod is a common support structure in modern office chairs, enabling smooth lifting and lowering of the seat through internal high-pressure gas. Its price varies significantly depending on the material and craftsmanship, with ordinary computer chair lift rods costing around 11.4 yuan and high-end explosion-proof hydraulic rods potentially costing more. The safety of the gas lift rod is crucial, and high-quality products must pass international certifications (such as the BIFMA standard) to prevent explosion risks. Additionally, some office chair support rods also integrate a swivel function, enabling 360-degree free rotation through a bottom bearing to enhance usage flexibility.

IV. Purchase and Maintenance Recommendations When purchasing an office chair, it is essential to focus on the material (such as steel or aluminum alloy) and craftsmanship (such as rust-proof treatment) of the support rod to ensure its load-bearing capacity and durability. During daily use, avoid violent operation of the adjustment rods and regularly check the sealing of the gas lift rod to prevent air leakage that could cause the seat to sink. If the adjustment rods become loose or the gas lift rod makes abnormal noises, contact after-sales service promptly for repairs to ensure usage safety.
