Office Chair Support Replacement
The replacement of office chair support can be carried out according to the following steps:

1. Determine if replacement is needed
When an office chair exhibits the following conditions, consider replacing the support: significant wobbling when sitting on it, with severe left-right or front-back rocking; strange noises from the support base, such as a creaking friction sound; deformation or cracking of the support base itself, or loose screws; overall tilting of the furniture, for example, one side of the chair being higher than the other.
2. Prepare tools and a new support base
- Tools: You will need a Phillips/flat-head screwdriver, a wrench (selected according to the type of screws on the old support base), a tape measure, and a marking pen (for marking positions).
- New support base: Measure the size accurately to ensure that the diameter, hole spacing, and height of the old support base match those of the new one. In terms of material, plastic support bases are suitable for lightweight furniture, while metal (such as cast iron or aluminum alloy) support bases are more durable and have a higher load-bearing capacity.
3. Replacement steps
- Removing the old support base:
- Runda Model D computer chair: Unfasten the fabric cover, use an Allen wrench to unscrew the 5*80 screws, record the screw positions in advance, and unscrew the remaining screws following the same steps.
- General cases: Turn the furniture upside down (e.g., place the chair upside down), use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws securing the support base, and collect the screws; if it is a snap-fit support base, gently pry it open; you can also grasp and pull the support part upward by hand. If it is firmly fixed, use a screwdriver or other tools to loosen it, taking care not to damage the furniture structure.
- Cleaning the installation surface: After removing the old support base, use a cloth to wipe off the dust and residual glue marks on the bottom of the furniture.
- Installing the new support base:
- Runda Model D computer chair: Align the holes on the armrest support with those on the seat support, connect them with 580 screws, and do not tighten them completely; align the holes on the crossbar with those on the armrest support, connect them with 540 screws and nuts, and tighten them firmly; connect the relevant parts again with 580 screws and 540 screws and nuts, and install the armrest fabric cover.
- General cases: Align the new support base with the original screw holes, place it properly, and screw in the screws. Do not apply excessive force to prevent cracking. After installation, gently shake it to test for stability. You can also insert the new support into the holes and fix it with screws or bolts.
4. Inspection and adjustment
Finally, check that all fasteners are in place correctly, and that the seat and backrest have an appropriate inclination angle to ensure everything is satisfactory.
Tips to avoid problems: Before installation, ensure that the furniture is placed steadily and avoid working in mid-air. For heavy furniture, it is best to have someone help hold it. The hole spacing and height of the new support base must be the same as those of the old one. After installation, gently shake it by hand or sit on it and test it 2 - 3 times to confirm that there is no wobbling or strange noise before using it.
