Office Chair Sunbathing
Leather office chairs should not be exposed to direct sunlight, and traditional office chairs are generally not suitable for prolonged sun exposure. Here are the specific reasons:

Hazards of Sun Exposure for Leather Products
The main materials of leather office chairs are genuine leather or artificial leather, which are highly sensitive to light and temperature. When leather is exposed to sunlight, ultraviolet rays accelerate the oxidative decomposition of its internal fiber structure, causing the leather to gradually harden, become brittle, and develop cracks or fissures. At the same time, high temperatures accelerate the evaporation of oils in the leather, causing it to lose elasticity, and the surface color may fade and darken due to photochemical reactions. More seriously, some low-quality leathers or chemical substances remaining during the processing may release toxic gases such as formaldehyde and benzene under high temperatures, posing a risk to human health.
Exceptions in Special Scenarios
There are a small number of leisure chairs specifically designed for outdoor use on the market, such as balcony lounge chairs and outdoor sun chairs, which differ fundamentally from office chairs in terms of materials and craftsmanship. These chairs typically use more weather-resistant synthetic materials (such as high-density polyethylene, Textilene mesh) or specially treated solid wood, with surface coatings that are UV-resistant, waterproof, and mold-resistant, enabling them to adapt to outdoor environments. However, it should be noted that they fall under the category of leisure furniture and differ from office chairs in terms of functional positioning and ergonomic design, so they cannot be simply substituted.
Daily Use Recommendations
If cleaning or ventilation is required, leather office chairs should be moved to a cool, ventilated area for a short period to avoid direct sunlight. During long-term use, it is recommended to regularly maintain the chairs with professional leather care products to replenish oils and form a protective film, slowing down the aging process. For non-leather office chairs (such as those made of mesh or plastic), although they are more resistant to light, prolonged exposure to sunlight can still cause the materials to change color and become brittle, so they should also be kept away from direct sunlight.
