Office Chair Structure Tutorial

Admin October 10, 2026

The following is a tutorial on the construction and assembly of an office chair structure:

Construction

  1. Frame Construction: The supporting frame of an office chair is usually made of steel tubes. Workers use machines to bend the steel tubes into the shape of the chair's bottom frame, and then weld the seat cushion part to the frame to ensure structural stability.
  2. Spring and Steel Bar Fixation: In the seat section, workers fix springs to the frame and horizontally fix steel bars in the middle of the springs to enhance the elasticity and stability of the seat, preventing spring deformation after prolonged sitting.
  3. Backrest Curve Design: The backrest is designed with a curve based on the comfortable sitting posture for prolonged sitting, and the outer covering is made of leather. During construction, leather of the appropriate shape is first cut out using a template, and sponge of the same size is also cut. The sponge is located between the frame and the outer covering, serving as a cushion and support.
  4. Outer Covering and Sponge Sewing: The cut sponge and outer covering are sewn together to ensure that the outer covering fits smoothly against the sponge. After sewing, the whole assembly is mounted onto the seat frame. A layer of particle board is added to the backrest part before mounting the sponge to increase stability.
  5. Base and Support Structure: The base is equipped with a cover to stabilize the overall structure, and the cover has screw holes for connecting the support structure. The support frame includes a hydraulic device for adjusting the height, a 360-degree rotating bearing, and movable wheels, ensuring that the chair has functions for height adjustment, rotation, and movement.
  6. Headrest and Armrest Assembly: Finally, the headrest and armrests are assembled onto the chair to complete the overall construction.

Assembly

  1. Caster and Chair Foot Installation: It is recommended to assemble from the bottom up. First, install the casters onto the chair feet to ensure that the casters can rotate flexibly.
  2. Gas Lift Installation: Insert the gas lift vertically into the center of the chair feet to ensure a firm connection between the gas lift and the chair feet for subsequent height adjustment of the chair.
  3. Base and Seat Fixation: Use screws to fix the base onto the seat to ensure a tight connection between the base and the seat, capable of bearing the weight of the human body.
  4. Backrest and Seat Connection: Connect the backrest to the seat to ensure a firm connection and that the backrest can provide stable support.
  5. Base and Gas Lift Connection: Insert the base vertically onto the gas lift to ensure a firm connection between the base and the gas lift, allowing the chair to be placed steadily.
  6. Armrest and Headrest Installation: Finally, install the armrests and headrest onto the chair to complete the overall assembly.
