Office Chair Steel Tube Repair
Admin October 09, 2026
Office chair steel tube repair requires selecting the appropriate method based on whether the tube is fractured or bent. The specific operations are as follows:

I. Repair Methods for Fractured Steel Tubes
- AB Metal Glue Bonding Method
This method is suitable for minor fractures or cracks. The operation steps are as follows:
- Surface Preparation: Sand the fractured area until it has a metallic luster, removing the oxide layer and impurities to ensure a strong bond with the glue.
- Glue Mixing and Application: Mix the AB glue in a 1:1 ratio and apply it evenly to the fractured surfaces. Align and press them together tightly.
- Fixation and Curing: Use a rope or tape to fix the area for about 20 minutes for initial shaping, and then let it sit for several hours until fully cured (refer to the glue's instructions for the specific time).
Note: This method is only suitable for non-load-bearing parts or minor damage. For fractures in load-bearing structures, other reinforcement methods should be combined.
- Tube Clamp Fixation Method
This method is for moderately misaligned or loose fractures. The steps are as follows:
- Measurement and Selection: Measure the outer diameter of the chair leg and select a matching metal tube clamp (such as a U-shaped or hoop-type clamp).
- Alignment and Fixation: Align the fractured area and tighten the tube clamp with bolts. Install one clamp at the top and one at the bottom to distribute the stress.
- Stability Check: Ensure that the tube clamp is firmly fixed without any wobbling. If necessary, add anti-slip gaskets.
Applicable Scenarios: This method is suitable for cases where the fracture surface is significantly misaligned or a quick repair is needed.
- Sleeve Connection Method
This method is suitable for neatly fractured surfaces. The key operation points are as follows:
- Sleeve Selection: Choose a metal sleeve that is slightly thicker than the chair leg (the length should cover at least 3 cm on both sides of the fracture surface).
- Mechanical Fixation: Slide the sleeve over the fractured area and fix it by welding, riveting, or bolting to enhance the structural strength.
Note: Welding requires professional equipment, and the surrounding wood should be wrapped to prevent burning. Non-professionals are advised to prioritize bolt fixation.
II. Repair Methods for Bent Steel Tubes
- Minor Deformation Treatment
If the bent area has no cracks or folds, you can try to correct it yourself:
- Tool Assistance: Use a hydraulic press or a specialized correction tool to slowly apply force and restore the original shape.
- Damage Inspection: After correction, check for any hidden cracks. If found, the tube should be replaced.
- Severe Damage Treatment
If there are cracks, folds, or severe rusting, the steel tube must be replaced:
- Removal of the Old Tube: Use a screwdriver and a wrench to remove the fixing screws or connectors.
- Installation of the New Tube: Choose a steel tube with the same specifications as the original one and ensure accurate installation position.
Strictly Prohibited: Continuing to use a steel tube with structural damage to avoid safety hazards.
III. Preparation and Precautions Before Repair
- Tools and Materials: Screwdrivers, wrenches, sandpaper, AB glue, tube clamps, metal sleeves, etc..
- Safety Protection: When welding, wear goggles and gloves to avoid burns or spark injuries.
- Professional Advice: For complex repairs (such as welding), it is advisable to contact professionals to ensure the repair quality.
