Loosening of Steel Tube in Office Chair

Admin October 12, 2026

The loosening of the steel tube in an office chair requires targeted treatment based on the specific loosened part and cause. Here are solutions for different situations:

If the steel tube itself is deformed, it may be bent after being hit or subjected to heavy pressure, resulting in a change in its geometric structure. Even if all the screws are tightened, the overall stability cannot be maintained. For minor deformations, manual correction can be attempted. Use tools such as pliers to assist in adjusting the shape of the steel tube to restore it to its original state. If the deformation is severe and manual correction cannot restore it, it is recommended to replace the table legs or related steel tube components to ensure the stability of the office chair.

If the screws connecting the seat surface and the chair legs are loose, this is a relatively common cause of loosening. In this case, find an appropriate screwdriver and tighten the loose screws one by one. During the tightening process, pay attention to applying an appropriate amount of force to avoid over-tightening, which may cause the screws to strip or damage the components.

If the thread of the screw hole is stripped, it will prevent the screw from being firmly fixed. In this situation, insert a piece of sharpened small wooden strip or bamboo piece into the hole. Use its filling effect to increase friction and then screw in a new self-tapping screw of the same specification to solve the loosening problem.

If the connection between the backrest and the chair frame is wobbly, find the hidden fixing bolts and tighten them with an appropriate wrench. If the bolts are rusty or broken, replace them with galvanized bolts of the same size. After tightening, you can drop a drop of lubricating oil on the bolt rod to reduce friction, prevent further rusting, and ensure the stability of the backrest.

If a wheeled office chair is wobbling, it is most likely that the connection between the wheel bracket and the chair legs is loose. In this case, first tighten the fixing screws on the bracket to ensure a tight connection between the wheel bracket and the chair legs. If the wheels themselves are wobbling or not rotating, it may be due to damage or aging of the internal components of the wheels. You can directly pinch the clips on both sides of the wheels to remove the old wheels and replace them with new ones of the same size to restore the normal use of the office chair.
