Office Chair Steel Pipe Fracture

Admin October 10, 2026

The repair of a fractured steel pipe in an office chair should be selected based on the location of the fracture and the load-bearing requirements, as follows:

I. Fractures in Non-Load-Bearing Parts (such as backrest decorative strips, armrest edges)

  1. Adhesive Reinforcement: Use A adhesive or metal glue for repair. First, clean the fracture site, sand the surface until rough, apply glue (thickness not exceeding 1 mm), andๆ‹ผๆŽฅ (join) after ventilation and drying for 24 hours. To enhance structural strength, metal plates or carbon fiber patches can be added after adhesive bonding, which is cost-effective and does not affect overall stability.
  2. Metal Plate Reinforcement: If the fracture site is subject to minimal stress, a metal plate can be directly added to the fracture site and fixed with screws to prevent secondary fractures.

II. Fractures in Load-Bearing Parts (such as chair legs, crossbeam connections)

  1. Welding Repair:
    • Grind the original weld at the fracture site and use an argon arc welding torch for welding to ensure a firm connection of the stainless steel material.
    • If it is a fracture in a hollow pipe, clean the rust at the connection, make an 'X'-shaped support rod with steel wire and insert it into the pipe, fill the gap with solder, and protect the surrounding material with aluminum foil to avoid high-temperature damage.
  2. Metal Plate Reinforcement: Drill holes at the fracture site and install a metal plate (such as a steel plate), with a material cost of about 50 yuan. Suitable for key parts such as chair legs and crossbeams, ensure that the metal plate fits closely with the fracture surface and is fixed with screws to distribute the load.

III. Fractures in Hollow Iron Pipes

  1. Wooden Stick or Thin Pipe Sleeve Connection:
    • Find a wooden stick with a matching diameter and hammer it into both ends of the fracture, or take a thin pipe slightly thicker than the support rod and sleeve it over the fracture site, drill holes, and fix it with screws.
  2. Bakelite Reinforcement: Process bakelite into a cylindrical shape, drill holes, apply glue, and thread it through both ends of the support rod, forming a stable structure after fixation.

Precautions

  1. Safety Assessment: Before repair, assess the stress situation at the fracture site. For damage to load-bearing structures, it is recommended to prioritize welding or replacing components to avoid secondary fractures after repair.
  2. Material and Design Defects: If the chair has issues such as thin steel pipe walls or false welds at welding points, there may still be safety hazards after repair. It is recommended to contact the merchant for negotiation on returns, exchanges, or compensation.
  3. Pneumatic Rod Safety: If it is a pneumatic lifting chair, confirm that the pneumatic rod is filled with inert nitrogen (regular products can withstand thousands of kilograms of pressure) and avoid using inferior products that have been switched to compressed air to prevent explosion risks. When purchasing, look for safety certifications and avoid violent operations or unauthorized disassembly of the pneumatic rod.
  4. Post-Repair Inspection: After repair, test the stability of the chair to ensure there is no wobbling or abnormal noise before normal use.
