Office Chair Steel Casters

Admin October 16, 2026

Office chair steel casters are casters made primarily of steel, characterized by high hardness, strong wear resistance, and high compressive strength, but they also have drawbacks such as high noise levels, heavy weight, and high costs.

I. Performance Advantages

  1. High Hardness and Wear Resistance: Steel casters are manufactured from steel, which gives them high hardness and enables them to resist wear during daily use. They are suitable for long-term use in offices and other places that require frequent movement. Their wear resistance effectively extends the service life of the casters and reduces the frequency of replacement.
  2. High Compressive Strength: The compressive strength of steel casters can reach 450MPa, allowing them to withstand significant vertical pressure. After 100,000 rolling tests, the deformation does not exceed 1.5% of the original size, indicating that they can maintain structural stability and are not prone to deformation or damage under high-intensity use conditions.
  3. Low Rolling Resistance: Steel casters come standard with a double-bearing structure. When moving on hard surfaces such as tiles, the rolling resistance coefficient is only 0.015. This means that users require less force to push the chair, making movement easier and more effortless, especially in scenarios that require frequent adjustment of the seat position.

II. Usage Limitations

  1. Noise Issues: Steel casters generate significant noise when they rub against the ground, especially when used on hard surfaces such as tiles and wooden floors. This noise can disrupt the office environment and affect the work or rest of others.
  2. Heavy Weight: A single caster weighs 3.2kg, and the total weight of four casters significantly increases the overall weight of the chair. This not only results in greater inertia when moving the chair, making it difficult to stop or turn quickly, but also increases the difficulty of carrying or adjusting its position.
  3. High Costs: The production of steel casters involves multiple processes such as stamping, welding, and electroplating, which are complex and have high material requirements, resulting in high production costs. The market price typically ranges from 40 to 60 yuan, which is higher than that of plastic or rubber casters.

III. Suitable Scenarios Steel casters are suitable for office environments that require high durability and load-bearing capacity, such as conference rooms, manager offices, or places that require frequent movement of heavy objects. If there are high requirements for noise control or the lightness of the chair, rubber or polyurethane casters can be considered as alternatives.
