Office Chair Stained by Menstruation
Admin October 19, 2026
After an office chair is stained by menstruation, it is necessary to choose targeted cleaning methods according to the freshness of the stain and the type of fabric, and pay attention to timely treatment to prevent the stain from penetrating and solidifying.

I. Preliminary Treatment
Immediately press and absorb the surface liquid with clean paper towels or a cloth. Avoid wiping back and forth to prevent the stain from spreading. If you are in the office, you can cover the stain with wet wipes and temporarily cover the chair with a coat, scarf, or folder to reduce embarrassment and prevent secondary contamination.
II. Cleaning According to Different Situations
Fresh Blood Stains
- Cold Water Rinsing: Turn the stained area upside down and rinse it from the back with running cold water, or soak it in cold water for 15 - 30 minutes to dilute the blood and prevent the protein from denaturing and solidifying.
- Gentle Cleaning: Apply a neutral detergent, underwear soap, or sulfur soap, and gently rub the stained area with your fingers or a soft cloth. Avoid using excessive force to damage the fabric.
- Thorough Rinsing: Rinse repeatedly with cold water until there is no foam. Absorb the water with a dry towel to ensure that the fabric is completely dry (a humid environment is prone to breeding bacteria).
Old/Stubborn Blood Stains
- Stain Softening: Soak in cold water for 30 minutes to 2 hours to fully soften the dried blood stains.
- Protease Decomposition: Apply a laundry detergent containing protease or a special detergent for underwear, let it sit for 10 - 15 minutes, and then gently brush it in one direction with a soft-bristled brush (avoid damaging the fibers).
- Special Treatment:
- White/light-colored bleach-resistant fabrics: Apply 3% medical hydrogen peroxide drop by drop (test for fading in a hidden area first), let it sit for 5 - 15 minutes, and then rinse with cold water.
- Other alternative solutions: Treat locally with cold salt water, diluted white vinegar, or baking soda paste (choose according to the fabric's tolerance).
III. Adjusting the Cleaning Method According to the Fabric
- Fabric/Mesh Fabrics: They have relatively good water resistance. You can soak them and then gently scrub them. Use a neutral or special fabric cleaner and avoid strong alkalis or bleaches.
- Leather Fabrics: Avoid using a large amount of water and irritating chemicals. Gently wipe the stain with a damp cloth soaked in diluted neutral detergent, immediately dry it with a dry cloth, and finally apply a leather conditioner to prevent cracking.
IV. Other Suggestions
- Thorough Cleaning: If the stain area is large or difficult to clean, you can move the chair to the restroom for thorough treatment after work.
- Emergency Tools: In public places, you can borrow cleaning tools from the staff or use wet wipes + mineral water to soak paper towels and wipe the stained area locally.
- Preventive Measures: Carry disposable sanitary pants and small waterproof seat cushions with you during menstruation; keep spare clothes, wet wipes, and small bottles of cleaners in the office to reduce the risk of accidents.
