Office Chair Squeak Solutions Diagram

Admin October 08, 2026

The solutions to office chair squeaks mainly include checking and tightening screws, applying lubricant, cleaning debris or checking cushion compatibility, and replacing worn parts.

  1. Check and Tighten Screws
Office chair squeaks often stem from loose screws, especially those at the backrest, armrests, base, and foot connections. Use a screwdriver or wrench to inspect these areas one by one. If any screws are loose, tighten them immediately. Be mindful of applying moderate force to avoid over-tightening, which can cause screw stripping or component damage.

  2. Apply Lubricant
Metal pivots, lift columns, and component joints may produce squeaks due to prolonged friction. Apply lubricant (such as silicone oil or lithium grease) to these areas to reduce friction and eliminate noise. Before applying, clean the surface dust to ensure even coverage of the lubricant and allow it to fully penetrate.

  3. Clean Debris or Check Cushion Compatibility
Debris such as dust and fragments may accumulate beneath the seat, causing squeaks when they rub against the foot or base. Regularly clean the area beneath the seat to ensure no debris interferes. If the cushion does not fit the chair frame properly (e.g., oversized or improperly installed), it may also cause friction squeaks, requiring readjustment or cushion replacement.

  4. Replace Worn Parts
If the squeak originates from wear at the connection between the gas lift and the five-star base, or from aging and deformation of plastic frame components (such as foot fractures or pivot looseness), replace the corresponding parts. When replacing the gas lift, choose a model that matches the original chair to avoid safety hazards due to size mismatches; for severely aged plastic parts, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer or a professional repair technician.

Precautions: Before operating, turn off the lifting function of the office chair (if applicable) to prevent accidental movement; if unfamiliar with the internal structure, refer to the product manual or contact after-sales service to avoid further damage due to improper disassembly. Regular maintenance (such as checking screws and applying lubricant every 3-6 months) can extend the lifespan of the office chair and reduce squeaks.
