Office Chair Spring Repair

Admin October 11, 2026

Office chair spring repair requires different methods depending on the type of spring. Hydraulic rods cannot be repaired and must be replaced, while spiral tower springs can be repaired or reinforced with additional support.

Hydraulic Rod (Gas Spring) Repair

Hydraulic rods are one-time sealed components and cannot be repaired. In case of failure, they must be replaced entirely. Common failures include malfunctioning lifting and lowering, automatic sinking, and inability to lock the height. The replacement process is as follows:

  • Safely Remove the Old Hydraulic Rod: Prepare tools such as a large pipe wrench and a rubber mallet. First, separate the five-star base from the chair seat, then carefully remove the old hydraulic rod. Exercise caution during the process to avoid injury caused by the release of pressure inside the hydraulic rod.
  • Accurately Measure and Purchase a New Rod: Measure key dimensions of the old hydraulic rod, such as total length, pipe diameter, and stroke. Purchase a new rod of the same size with safety certification. Mismatched sizes may lead to installation difficulties or poor performance, while safety certification ensures product quality and user safety.
  • Install the New Hydraulic Rod: After cleaning the interfaces, connect the new hydraulic rod to the five-star base and the chair seat. Ensure the connections are tight and free of looseness. After installation, test to check if the lifting and lowering functions work properly and if the height locking is secure.

Spiral Tower Spring Repair

  • Causes of Sagging: Prolonged use or long-term overloading can cause the spring to sag. This not only makes the chair uncomfortable to sit on but may also cause physical harm with long-term use.
  • Repair Methods:
    • Replace the Spring: Remove the seat cushion, locate the sagging spring, use a wrench to remove the screws around it, take out the old spring, and replace it with a new one. Install it following the original method. Replacing the spring can completely solve the sagging problem and restore the normal use of the chair.
    • Add Support: If the spring is only slightly deformed, cut a reinforcing plate of the same size as the chair base from wood or hard cardboard, attach it under the original spring, and secure it with wood screws. This method is simple and can improve the comfort of the chair to a certain extent.
  • Preventive Measures: Use the chair correctly, pay attention to your sitting posture, and avoid overloading. Regularly maintain the chair, check for deformation or sagging of the spring, and repair or replace it promptly to extend the lifespan of the chair.
