Office Chair Spring Repair
Admin October 11, 2026
The repair method for office chair springs should be tailored according to the type of spring damage. Common situations and steps are as follows:

I. Backrest Spring Repair
Damage to the backrest spring usually manifests as breakage or loosening at the connection points, and different measures should be taken according to the specific problem.
1. Spring Breakage
- Tool Preparation: Pliers, screwdrivers, tape measures.
- Operation Steps:
- Lay the office chair down with the backrest facing up and locate the position of the broken spring.
- Use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws or release the clips that secure the spring, and remove the broken spring.
- Key Measurement: Use a tape measure to measure the length, diameter, and number of coils of the spring to ensure that the specifications of the new spring match (for example, if the original spring is 30 cm long, 3 mm in diameter, and has 8 coils, a product with the same parameters should be purchased).
- Install the new spring: Align the spring with its original position, tighten the screws with a screwdriver or fasten the clips, and repeatedly press to test the firmness to avoid secondary damage due to unstable installation.
2. Loose Connection Points
- Tool Preparation: Screwdrivers, soldering irons (if soldering is required), new connectors (such as bolts and nuts).
- Operation Steps:
- Separate the backrest from the seat to expose the spring connection points (such as the hinge at the bottom of the backrest and the seat).
- Check the Connection Method:
- If it is a loose solder joint: Heat the solder joint with a soldering iron and re-solder it firmly, being careful to control the temperature to avoid burning the seat material.
- If it is worn connectors (such as stripped bolts or cracked nuts): Use a screwdriver to remove the old connectors and replace them with new ones of the same specifications to ensure a firm connection between the spring, backrest, and seat.
II. Reclining Spring Problems
If the backrest of the office chair cannot recline, first check the status of the operating lever.
- Operating Lever Check:
- Locate the reclining operating lever under the seat (usually a metal lever on the right side of the seat).
- Unlocking Operation: Pull the operating lever outward (some models may require pressing or rotating), and a clicking sound indicates successful unlocking.
- Test Reclining: After unlocking, slowly lean back on the backrest and observe whether the elasticity is restored. If it still cannot recline, the spring may be aged or the internal mechanical structure may be jammed, and further disassembly and inspection are required (it is recommended to contact a professional repair person).
Precautions:
- Cut off the power supply before repair (if it is an electric office chair) to avoid danger caused by misoperation.
- When installing the spring, maintain symmetry to avoid seat tilt due to uneven force.
- If the spring is severely damaged (such as serious deformation or rust perforation), it is recommended to replace it directly rather than repair it to ensure safety.
