Office Chair Spring Cover

Admin October 19, 2026

An office chair spring cover is an accessory used to protect the internal spring structure of an office chair. Its main functions are to prevent spring exposure, reduce wear and tear, enhance comfort, and extend the chair's lifespan.

Core Functions

The spring cover is typically wrapped around the spring assembly inside the seat cushion or backrest of an office chair. Its materials are often high-density fabrics, wear-resistant plastics, or elastic rubber. There are three main functions:

  1. Safety Protection: It prevents direct contact between the springs and the human body or clothing, reducing the risk of scratches caused by spring breakage or displacement, especially for children or pets.
  2. Lifespan Extension: It reduces friction between the springs and the filling materials (such as foam or memory foam), preventing spring rusting or breakage due to long-term friction, while also protecting the filling materials from being indented by the springs.
  3. Comfort Enhancement: By evenly distributing pressure, it avoids discomfort caused by local spring protrusion, making the seat cushion or backrest flatter and softer.

Common Types and Selection

Based on the type of springs and chair design, spring covers can be divided into two categories:

  • Independent Pocket Spring Cover: Common in high-end office chairs, each spring is individually wrapped in a non-woven fabric bag. The cover needs to be highly elastic to accommodate spring deformation and have good breathability to avoid stuffiness.
  • Continuous Spring Cover: Used for traditional one-piece spring structures, the cover needs to be thicker and more wear-resistant to withstand the overall stretching and compression of the springs. Materials often include thickened polyester or nylon.

When selecting, note: The cover size should perfectly match the spring assembly; a loose fit may cause shifting, while a tight fit may restrict spring elasticity. The material should pass environmental tests (such as being formaldehyde-free and odorless), especially for seats that come into long-term contact with the skin, where skin-friendliness is important.

Maintenance and Replacement

The lifespan of a spring cover is usually related to the frequency of chair use. It is recommended to inspect it every 2-3 years: If the cover is damaged, springs are exposed, or the sitting comfort significantly decreases (such as sagging without rebound), it should be replaced promptly. When replacing, the seat fabric needs to be removed, the old cover taken out, and the new one put in place, ensuring the springs are aligned and the edges are secured to prevent the cover from sliding and losing its protective function.

If the chair design allows, an additional cover (such as a thin foam pad) can be added as double protection, but it should be ensured that it does not affect the normal elastic feedback of the springs.
