Office Chair Sponge Materials

Admin October 14, 2026

Common sponge materials used in office chairs include regular sponge, recycled cotton, molded foam, PU foam, memory foam, and spring foam.

Regular sponge is a basic material, typically light yellow in color, soft in texture, but with average elasticity. Its advantage lies in its low cost and ease of use, making it widely applied in various types of seats and sofas, and a common choice for office chair filling.

Recycled cotton is made from recycled process scraps, with a cost about half that of virgin sponge, offering a significant price advantage. However, recycled cotton may contain harmful substances such as formaldehyde, has poor support, and is prone to collapsing after long-term use, thus having certain defects in terms of health and durability.

Molded foam is made from polyurethane material, with its density adjustable according to needs, providing high stability, health benefits, and comfort. This material can offer good support while maintaining good resilience, making it an excellent choice for office chair filling, especially suitable for scenarios requiring long-term use.

PU foam (polyurethane foam) has high elasticity and durability, with a density generally between 25-30kg/mยณ. It has good moisture absorption and features antibacterial and anti-mite properties, often used for filling wooden office chairs. PU foam stands out for its comprehensive performance, meeting the requirements for comfort and durability in office chairs.

Memory foam, also known as slow-rebound foam, has high temperature sensitivity and body contour conformity, with a density range of 50-80kg/mยณ. It can slowly recover its shape according to body temperature and pressure, providing personalized support, along with good breathability and moisture absorption. However, memory foam is relatively expensive and is usually used in high-end office chairs.

Spring foam is made from high-quality steel wire springs combined with foam sponge, featuring sturdiness and good elasticity. It is commonly used in the seat and backrest parts of office chairs, providing stable support and suitable for users requiring strong support. The structure of spring foam achieves a good balance between durability and comfort.
