Office Chair Splashed with Water

Admin October 14, 2026

After an office chair is splashed with water, it is necessary to take targeted measures based on the type of chair and the degree of moisture absorption, while also paying attention to subsequent rights protection and safety risk prevention.

I. Basic Treatment: Remove Water as Soon as Possible

  1. Surface Water Treatment: Use a highly absorbent cotton cloth or paper towel to quickly wipe visible areas such as the seat surface and backrest to prevent further water penetration. If the chair is made of leather or artificial leather, use a dry cloth to gently press and absorb the water to prevent surface scratches.
  2. Internal Water Treatment: If the water has penetrated into the filling layer (such as sponge or memory foam), remove the fabric covers of the seat and backrest, and use a hair dryer on a low-temperature setting or a dehydrator (only for removable parts) to assist in drying. Note: High temperatures may damage the elasticity of the filling material, so keep a distance of 10 - 15 centimeters while blowing.

II. Deep Cleaning and Disinfection

  1. Fabric Seat Cleaning: Select a cleaning agent containing bactericidal ingredients (such as diluted 84 disinfectant or a special fabric cleaning agent) to wipe the seat surface, focusing on the splashed area and its edges to prevent bacterial growth. After cleaning, wipe it again with clean water and dry it thoroughly.
  2. Internal Structure Treatment: If the internal parts of the chair are damp (such as wooden frames or metal brackets), disassemble the seat and backrest, and place the components in a well-ventilated area to dry naturally. Ensure complete dryness before reassembling to prevent mildew or rust.

III. Treatment for Special Types of Chairs

  1. Safety Risks of Adjustable Chairs:
    • Power Disconnection: Immediately unplug the power cord or charger to prevent circuit short-circuits that could cause fires or electric shock risks.
    • Gas Rods and Hardware: Invert the seat to drain the water, and use a dry cloth to absorb the visible water on the surface; disassemble the screws at the hardware joints and clean up the accumulated water; if the water at the connection of the gas rod has been there for more than 2 hours, use the cold air setting of a hair dryer to dry the gaps to prevent rust spots.
    • Internal Spring Structure: If the water level exceeds the height of the adjustment button, remove the outer cover of the gas pressure rod and use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to wipe the metal contact surfaces to prevent spring rusting that could cause adjustment jams.
    • Drying Requirements: Avoid direct sunlight (exposure to sunlight can accelerate the aging of plastic parts), and dry in a well-ventilated area for 36 - 48 hours. After drying, test whether the adjustment function is smooth. If it is jammed, stop using it immediately and contact after-sales service.

IV. Deformation Repair and Subsequent Maintenance

  1. Deformation Treatment: If the chair is deformed due to water absorption, use a splint and a dry towel to fix and straighten both sides of the deformed area, or use a hot towel (below 60ยฐC) to apply to the deformed area and use the principle of thermal expansion and contraction to assist in restoring its original shape.
  2. Long-term Maintenance: Regularly check the structural stability of the chair, avoid storing it in a humid environment, and add a moisture-proof film between the filling layer and the outer fabric if necessary.

V. Legal and Unit Management Suggestions

If the water-splashing behavior is intentional by others, you can first try to negotiate for compensation. If the negotiation fails, collect evidence (such as surveillance footage or witness testimonies) and file a lawsuit in court. At the unit level: You can warn or punish the involved personnel in accordance with internal regulations, and at the same time, strengthen the management of public areas to reduce the occurrence of similar incidents.
