Office Chair Spindle Broken

Admin October 14, 2026

If the spindle of an office chair is broken, repair methods such as lubrication, inspection and replacement of parts, and removal of foreign objects can be adopted depending on the specific issue. If you are not familiar with the operation or the damage is severe, it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician.

  • Lubrication: If the spindle has insufficient lubrication, causing poor rotation, locate the axis of the swivel chair, which is usually at the center. Use a syringe or an oil can to inject an appropriate amount of lubricating oil, such as sewing machine oil, into the axis. After injection, rotate the swivel chair to allow the oil to fully lubricate the inside of the axis and improve the rotation condition.

  • Inspection and Replacement of Parts:

    • Part Wear: When the swivel chair shows signs of wobbling from side to side or sinking, it may be due to damage to core components such as the detachment of bearing steel balls or the aging of nylon gaskets. At this time, carefully check whether the bearings and seals on the spindle are intact. If any wear, cracks, deformation, or other damage is found, replace the appropriate bearings, seals, and other spare parts according to the specific situation.
    • Gas Cylinder Issues: If the gas cylinder is bent or deformed, it will affect the rotation of the swivel chair. Gas cylinder issues are relatively complex, and improper self-handling may pose safety risks. Therefore, it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician for handling or directly replace it with a new gas cylinder.
  • Removal of Foreign Objects: Hair strands, snack crumbs, paper clips, and other foreign objects falling into the gaps of the rotating shaft can cause rotation obstacles. Carefully clean the foreign objects from the rotating shaft area to ensure normal rotation of the rotating shaft.

  • Reference for Repair Steps:

    • Disassembly of the Spindle: Use appropriate tools to disassemble the spindle from the equipment according to the equipment condition (refer to the instruction manual if available).
    • Cleaning of the Spindle: Use a cleaning agent and a soft cloth to clean the spindle, removing surface oil stains and impurities. Be careful not to let the cleaning agent penetrate into the inside of the spindle to avoid damage.
    • Assembly of the Spindle: Reassemble the spindle, ensuring that each component is installed correctly and the fastening screws are tightened in place.
    • Testing of the Spindle: After installation, conduct a test run to check whether the spindle operates smoothly and without abnormal noise.
