Office Chair Specifications

Admin October 14, 2026

The specifications of office chairs typically cover five core dimensions: seat height, seat depth, seat width, backrest height, and armrest height. The specific parameter ranges and design considerations are as follows:

Seat height is a crucial parameter affecting sitting comfort. The seat height range for conventional office chairs is 400 mm to 550 mm, designed to match the height of standard office desks (700 mm to 760 mm). This ensures that when seated, the user's thighs are parallel to the ground, preventing leg suspension or compression due to height mismatch. For auditorium chairs, due to different usage scenarios, the seat height is usually fixed at 400 to 440 mm to accommodate tiered seating arrangements.

Seat depth directly affects leg support. The seat depth range for conventional office chairs is 400 mm to 500 mm, designed to support 2/3 to 3/4 of the user's thigh length while avoiding pressure on the popliteal fossa (behind the knee) to prevent impaired blood circulation. Auditorium chairs have a slightly narrower seat depth, generally 400 to 450 mm, to save space and accommodate prolonged sitting.

Seat width needs to balance comfort and versatility. The seat width range for conventional office chairs is 450 mm to 600 mm, accommodating users of different body types while preventing body leaning due to a narrow seat or reduced mobility efficiency due to an overly wide seat. Some ergonomic chairs further optimize adaptability through adjustable seat width designs.

Backrest height should conform to the human spine curve. The backrest height for conventional office chairs is usually 500 mm to 700 mm, with the lumbar support area (approximately the L1-L5 position of the lumbar spine) being the design focus. Some high-end models are equipped with adjustable lumbar support modules that provide precise support through up-and-down or front-and-back movement. Auditorium chairs, designed to meet the needs of audiences sitting upright for extended periods, have a fixed back height of 1020 mm, providing complete support from the waist to the shoulders.

Armrest height needs to coordinate with desk height. The armrest height range for conventional office chairs is 200 mm to 300 mm, designed to ensure that when the arms hang naturally, the elbows are bent at 90ยฐ to 100ยฐ, reducing shoulder and neck muscle strain. Some models support multi-directional adjustment of armrest height, angle, and front-back position to adapt to different work scenarios (such as typing, reading, or meetings).

The above parameters are all designed based on ergonomic principles, aiming to reduce prolonged sitting fatigue and enhance work efficiency by scientifically matching the dimensions of various body parts. When selecting an office chair, it is essential to conduct a comprehensive evaluation based on the usage scenario (such as office, meeting, or leisure), the user's body type (height, weight), and functional requirements (such as adjustability).
