Office Chair Specifications
The current office chair specifications in China include official industry standards and group standards, covering multiple dimensions such as basic requirements, body pressure testing, and quality grading.

I. Official Light Industry Standards
QB/T 2280-2016 'Office Furniture - Office Chairs' is a fundamental general standard formulated by the China National Light Industry Council and implemented in 2016. This standard specifies the classification of office chairs (e.g., based on adjustment functions and usage scenarios), technical requirements (e.g., adjustable height range of the seat not less than 60mm, armrest strength, caster wear resistance), and testing methods. It also includes safety requirements such as structural stability, absence of dangerous protrusions on edges and corners, and flame retardancy to ensure that the product does not cause physical harm to users during use.
II. Body Pressure Distribution Testing Standards
QB/T 5618-2021 'Measurement Method for Body Pressure Distribution of Office Chairs', published in 2021, standardizes the testing process and methods for body pressure distribution. This standard quantifies the pressure distribution in the contact area between the human body and the seat using pressure sensors or pressure distribution testing systems, providing a scientific basis for evaluating the comfort of office chairs. For example, in long-term sitting scenarios, the seat pressure should be evenly distributed to avoid localized high pressure that can lead to fatigue or health issues.
III. Supplementary Requirements in Group Standards
- T/SPEMF 0003-2021 'Office Chairs': Formulated by the Shanghai Furniture Industry Association and implemented in 2021, this standard refines the classification of office chairs and supplements safety requirements such as flame retardancy (e.g., fabric flame retardancy rating) and limits on harmful substances (e.g., formaldehyde and heavy metal content). It also specifies indicators for comfort (e.g., seat depth and backrest inclination) and durability (e.g., number of chassis fatigue tests).
- T/SZFA 3006-2021 'Office Chairs': Issued by the Shenzhen Furniture Industry Association and applicable to indoor office chairs, this standard clarifies product classification, technical requirements (e.g., number of gas rod adjustments and static load capacity of casters), inspection rules, and packaging requirements. It emphasizes the product's moisture resistance in humid southern environments.
- T/CNFA 016-2021 'Quality and Safety Grading of Office Chairs': Formulated in 2021, this standard defines the rules for quality and safety grading. By comprehensively evaluating indicators such as materials, structure, and performance, office chairs are classified into different grades, providing a reference for consumers when making purchases.
IV. Recommended Guidelines
The 'Guidelines for Specifications and Performance of General Office Furniture in Central Administrative Institutions' issued by the National Government Offices Administration recommend specifications and performance indicators for office chairs, including appearance dimensions, surface physical and chemical properties (e.g., abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance), mechanical properties (e.g., static load capacity of the seat), and environmental requirements (e.g., VOC emissions). However, these indicators are non-mandatory and serve only as a reference for procurement.
