Office Chair Spacing
Admin October 08, 2026
Office chair spacing should be reasonably planned according to different office scenarios and needs, with specific standards as follows:

Single-person Office Scenarios
- Basic Activity Space: The rotation radius of a standard office chair is 600-750mm, and at least 900mm of backward space should be reserved to ensure free movement of personnel; the armrests of ergonomic chairs should maintain a gap of 50-100mm from the underside of the desk to avoid arm friction.
- Clear Space Behind the Workstation: It is recommended to reserve more than 80cm of space behind the seat to ensure that the seat can be fully moved backward, and employees can stand up and stretch their limbs.
- Differences in Usage Scenarios: During regular keyboard operations, a distance of 60-75cm between the seat and the desktop can maintain a correct sitting posture; for group discussions, it is recommended to increase the distance to 80cm; in formal meeting scenarios, a professional spacing standard of 60cm should be adopted.
Multi-person Office Scenarios
- Open Office Areas: It is recommended to have a seat spacing of 1200-1500mm, taking into account both the uninterrupted movement of personnel and compliance with fire exit regulations.
- Side-by-side Workstations: The horizontal clear distance between adjacent employees should be no less than 70cm, and for customer service, operations, and other intensive positions, more than 75cm should be reserved.
- Face-to-face Workstations: The clear distance between two desks should be no less than 110cm to ensure that both parties can move their seats backward, stand up, and enter and exit without obstruction.
- Back-to-back Partitioned Workstations: After the middle partition is installed, a space of more than 80cm should be reserved on each side for moving the chair backward.
- Aisles in Dense Areas: The width of secondary aisles in regular office areas should be no less than 90cm; for densely populated areas, main department aisles, and fire exits, a width of 100-110cm is recommended.
Special Office Scenarios
- Independent Offices for Management: Leather executive chairs have a larger range of motion, so it is recommended to reserve more than 1500mm of space around them.
- Conference Room Configuration: Swivel chairs should ensure a width of 800mm per seat and a row spacing of no less than 1000mm to ensure smooth entry and exit of personnel.
- Special Position Requirements: For technical positions such as design and video editing, which require the placement of dual devices or multiple files, it is recommended to widen the horizontal spacing to more than 80cm and appropriately expand the depth; for data-intensive positions such as finance and archives, the aisle spacing can be widened.
Reasonable planning of office chair spacing can improve space utilization while ensuring employee comfort and work efficiency, and parameters should be flexibly adjusted according to specific scenarios.
