Office Chair SolidWorks Assembly
The assembly of an office chair in SolidWorks can be carried out according to the following steps:

Preliminary Preparation: Complete the 3D modeling of all components of the office chair in advance. For the metal frame, draw a 3D sketch as the path and a 2D sketch as the cross-section, and then use operations such as scanning and mirroring to complete it. For the seat cushion and backrest, use the surface method. First, create sketch lines, and then generate them through operations such as lofting, mirroring, and thickening. Components such as chair legs and armrests also need to be modeled separately.
Create a New Assembly File: Open the SolidWorks software, click the 'New' button, select the 'Assembly' template from the pop-up options, and enter the assembly environment to provide a workspace for subsequent assembly operations.
Insert Components: Click the 'Insert Components' button. In the pop-up file selection window, select the pre-modeled components of the office chair one by one, such as the metal frame, seat cushion and backrest, chair legs, and armrests, and insert them into the assembly.
Use Mating Functions:
- Coincident Mate: For example, when placing the chair legs in the appropriate position, you can select the bottom surface of the chair legs and the ground or other supporting surfaces for a coincident mate to make the chair legs stable.
- Distance Mate: If you want to set the distance between the seat cushion and the chair seat, you can select the bottom surface of the seat cushion and the top surface of the chair seat, and enter an appropriate distance value to ensure that the height of the seat cushion meets the design requirements.
- Concentric Mate: For components with shaft-hole mating, such as the rotating shaft and hole of the chair, select the cylindrical surfaces of the shaft and hole for a concentric mate to ensure that the rotating shaft can rotate normally.
- Angle Mate: If you need to adjust the backrest angle of the office chair, you can select the planes of the backrest and the chair seat for an angle mate and set an appropriate angle value to meet the usage needs of different users.
Adjust Component Positions: Fine-tune the positions and orientations of each component by dragging them or using the 'Move Components' and 'Rotate Components' tools to make them conform to the layout of an actual office chair, ensuring that the assembled office chair has a reasonable structure and a coordinated appearance.
In addition, in an assembly, when a component instance is deleted, the instance count of other instances of the same component will not change. When a component instance is saved as a new part by right-clicking and then clicking 'Make Independent', the instance count of the newly created component is <1>. When a component is replaced with a component that does not exist in the assembly, the instance count becomes <1>. If the replacement component already exists in the assembly, the instance count becomes n + 1, where n is the maximum instance count already in the assembly.
