Office Chair Sliding Installation
Admin October 16, 2026
The issue of an office chair sliding down is usually related to the failure of the gas lift or loose connecting components, and can be resolved by replacing the gas lift or tightening the components. The specific steps are as follows:

I. Solutions for Gas Lift Failure
If the sliding is caused by gas lift failure (such as insufficient air pressure or internal seal damage), a new gas lift needs to be replaced:
Prepare Tools and Accessories
- Tools: Hammer (or large adjustable wrench), lubricating oil (for disassembly assistance).
- Accessories: The new gas lift must match the original specifications (such as tube diameter and stroke). Prioritize products that have passed SGS Level 4 certification, TUV certification, or comply with the GB/T 2280-2016 standard to ensure safety.
Remove the Old Gas Lift
- Raise the chair to its highest position and place it upside down on a stable surface, with a soft cloth underneath to protect the seat.
- Use a hammer to gently tap evenly around the edge of the central sleeve of the five-star base to separate the base from the lower end of the gas lift. If it is rusted or too tight, drizzle lubricating oil to assist in disassembly.
Install the New Gas Lift
- Insert the chair wheels into the lower end of the new gas lift to ensure a secure installation.
- Align the seat base with the upper end of the gas lift and fix it with silver screws, making sure to tighten all connections.
II. Solutions for Loose Connecting Components
If the sliding is caused by loose components (such as a stuck adjustment valve or loose screws), check and tighten them:
Check the Adjustment Valve/Locking Mechanism
- Observe whether there are any foreign objects (such as dust or debris) blocking the adjustment valve or locking mechanism at the bottom of the chair, and clean them with a cotton swab or soft cloth.
- Try to manually adjust the height to confirm whether the mechanism can lock properly. If it still fails, further inspection of the gas lift or internal spring is required.
Tighten All Connections
- Use a screwdriver or wrench to check all screws and bolts at the bottom of the chair for looseness, focusing on the connections between the five-star base and the gas lift, and between the seat and the base.
- Tighten the loose screws one by one to ensure that all components are firmly connected.
Precautions:
- When replacing the gas lift, if you lack experience, it is recommended to contact a professional maintenance technician to operate it to avoid safety hazards caused by improper installation.
- Regularly check the condition of all components of the chair (such as every 3-6 months), clean dust in a timely manner, and lubricate moving joints to extend its service life.
