Office Chair Sliding Deviation

Admin October 12, 2026

If your office chair slides off course, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Step 1: Check the Wheel Condition
Place the chair upright and observe whether each wheel foot makes even contact with the ground. If there is any tilt, turn the chair upside down and focus on checking whether the wheel feet are bent, deformed, or damaged. As support points, if any part of the wheel feet is deformed, it will cause the entire chair to shift in that direction. If damage is found, purchase a complete set that matches the original wheel model for replacement to avoid secondary deviation caused by differences in friction coefficients between new and old wheels.

Step 2: Confirm Ground Evenness
Move the chair to another flat area for testing. If the deviation problem disappears, the original ground may have bumps, gaps, or slopes. For example, carpet seams, areas with loose tiles, or deformed wooden floors can all interfere with the wheel's rolling path. It is recommended to prioritize using office chairs on hard, flat surfaces or adjust the wheel height (for some adjustable chairs) to accommodate slightly uneven ground.

Step 3: Inspect the Seat Plate and Sliding Rail
Lay the chair on its side and observe whether the metal seat plate (usually a square black steel plate) is deformed or broken. As the core component connecting the seat cushion and the gas lift, any structural damage to the seat plate will directly cause the seat cushion to tilt. If the seat plate is intact, further inspect the sliding rail beneath the seat cushion: use a cotton swab to clean dust, hair, or debris from the sliding rail to ensure smooth operation; if the sliding rail has cracks, gets stuck, or derails, replace it with a same-model sliding rail assembly.

Step 4: Evaluate the Gas Lift Condition
The gas lift is responsible for adjusting the chair's height and supporting the weight of the seat cushion. After long-term use, its internal seals may age, leading to gas leakage or uneven support force, manifested as the chair slowly sinking or tilting to one side. You can determine this by the following method: press down on the seat cushion with your hand; if one side sinks significantly or rebounds slowly, it indicates that the gas lift has failed. Contact the manufacturer or a professional repair technician to replace the gas lift that meets safety standards to avoid safety hazards caused by disassembly without professional knowledge.

Additional Notes: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be due to deformation of the chair's overall frame (such as the five-star base) or loose connections. In this case, it is recommended to contact after-sales service for professional inspection and repair to avoid further damage to components due to non-professional operation. During daily use, avoid jumping on the chair or placing heavy objects on it to extend the chair's lifespan and reduce the risk of deviation.
