Office Chair Slides Easily

Admin October 16, 2026

Office chairs sliding easily can be effectively resolved through the following methods:

I. Use Specialized Accessories

  1. Chair Fixed Feet: Replace the original casters directly. After installation, the chair cannot move at all, providing the most thorough fixation but sacrificing all mobility convenience. It is suitable for long-term fixed use scenarios, such as in front of specific workbenches.
  2. Wheels with Brakes or Gravity Self-Locking Wheels:
    • Wheels with brakes require manual locking and unlocking one by one. The operation is slightly cumbersome but offers precise control;
    • Gravity self-locking wheels use a gravity-triggered mechanism. When a person sits on the chair, the wheels unlock and can roll; when the person leaves, they automatically lock, balancing convenience and stability. They are suitable for office scenarios with frequent sitting and standing.
  3. Swivel Chair Wheel Covers/Fixers: These are accessories that directly clamp onto existing casters. They are easy to install and require no tools. They can effectively lock the wheels, prevent sliding and noise, and protect wooden floors, tiles, and other surfaces from scratches. They are suitable for temporary fixation needs.

II. Low-Cost Techniques to Increase Friction

  1. Paper Stuffing Method: Fold A4 paper and stuff it into the wheels of the office chair. By increasing the rolling resistance, the chair becomes difficult to slide, but it cannot be completely fixed. It is suitable for emergency use.
  2. Carpet Laying Method: Lay a rough carpet in the area where the chair moves. By increasing the ground friction, sliding is restricted, and the floor is protected at the same time. It is suitable for long-term use in scenarios where aesthetics are not highly required.

III. Use Anti-Slip Mats or Protective Pads

  1. Self-Adhesive Anti-Slip Mats/EVA Protective Pads: Stick them directly to the bottom of the chair legs. They significantly increase friction and also have the functions of reducing noise and preventing scratches on the floor. They are suitable for most floor types, are easy to install, and have low cost.
  2. Chair Leg Covers:
    • Silicone Covers: They have good elasticity, excellent anti-slip and wear-resistant properties, and are easy to install. They are the universal first choice;
    • Felt Pads: They have an excellent sound-dampening effect and provide good protection for soft floors such as wooden floors. However, their anti-slip performance is weak on smooth hard surfaces such as tiles, and they are afraid of moisture;
    • Anti-Slip Tape: It can be cut and wrapped, suitable for chair legs with irregular shapes. It has strong fixation but may leave glue when removed.

IV. Use Large-Area Anti-Slip Mats

Laying carpets or specialized anti-slip mats in the area where the chair often moves can fundamentally increase the overall friction, prevent sliding, and protect the floor. They are suitable for open office spaces or home use.
