Office Chair Slides

To solve the problem of office chairs sliding, you can choose the following methods based on the type of chair:

Office chairs with casters
Use specialized accessories
- Chair fixed feet: Directly replace the original casters. After installation, the chair cannot move at all, providing a thorough fixing effect, but sacrificing mobility convenience. Suitable for scenarios that require long-term fixed positions, such as in front of a drafting table or at specific workstations.
- Wheels with brakes or gravity self-locking mechanisms:
- Manual brake wheels: Require locking/unlocking one by one, suitable for scenarios where occasional fixing is needed, such as in meetings or for temporary office work.
- Gravity self-locking wheels: Adopt a gravity-triggered mechanism. When a person sits on the chair, it unlocks and can roll; when the person leaves, it automatically locks, balancing convenience and stability. Suitable for scenarios that require frequent movement but need short-term fixing.
- Swivel chair wheel covers/fixers: Directly clamp onto the existing casters without the need for tools for installation. They can lock the wheels to prevent sliding and also protect the floor (such as wooden floors or tiles) from scratches, suitable for home or office environments.
Low-cost techniques to increase friction
- Paper-stuffing method: Fold A4 paper and stuff it into the gaps between the wheels to reduce sliding by increasing rolling resistance. However, it cannot completely fix the chair and is suitable for temporary emergencies.
- Carpet-laying method: Lay a rough carpet in the area where the chair moves. By increasing the floor friction, it restricts sliding. This is an environmental modification solution, suitable for long-term use and for those who do not mind changing the floor decoration.
Fixed-leg office chairs with four legs
- Install anti-slip and silent foot pads
- Material selection:
- Silicone pads: Soft, with excellent anti-slip and cushioning effects, suitable for hard floors.
- EVA pads: Have good elasticity, suitable for scenarios that require a certain degree of shock absorption.
- Felt pads: Lightweight and silent, suitable for wooden floors and other easily scratched floors.
- Self-adhesive design: Easy to install, but some products may have an odor initially and need to be ventilated before use.
- Adaptation and installation: Choose foot pads with an appropriate inner diameter according to the shape of the chair legs (round or square). Ensure that the four foot pads completely wrap the bottom of the chair legs and are of the same height to avoid instability caused by a shifted center of gravity.
- Material selection:
Chairs with hard seats
Use seat anti-slip pads with adjustable straps: The back of the pad usually has silicone anti-slip particles that can grip both the seat and the floor at the same time. The straps on both sides can firmly fix the pad on the chair, solving the problems of seat sliding and discomfort from prolonged sitting. Suitable for scenarios that require additional comfort and stability.
