Office Chair Size Measurement

Admin October 16, 2026

Office chair size measurement should be carried out in a standardized manner based on standard methods, combined with specific operations and common ranges.

I. Measurement Method Standards The Chinese national standard (GB/T 38733-2020) 'Office Furniture - Office Chairs - Size Measurement Methods' serves as the core basis. It specifies the measurement procedures and tool requirements for key dimensions such as seat height, seat depth, tilt angle, backrest height, and armrest position, ensuring data uniformity and comparability.

II. Specific Measurement Operations (Using the TST-C0152 CMD Measuring Device as an Example)

  1. Pre-test Preparation: The floor should be adjusted to a level state, the CMD buttock pad should be kept horizontal, the chair should be fixed, and the seat position should be adjusted to ensure that CMD components do not touch the seat.
  2. Seat Height Measurement: Apply a 40N horizontal loading force using weights, press and hold the lowering button of the lifting device, slowly release the CMD to load onto the seat, loosen the vertical component to make it fit against the backrest, then remove the weights and read the seat height with a long ruler.
  3. Seat Depth Measurement: Adjust the CMD seat depth indicator so that its front end just touches the front edge of the seat.
  4. Seat Tilt Angle Measurement: Use a level tester to directly measure the angle between the seat surface and the horizontal plane.
  5. Backrest Height Measurement: Assemble a dedicated backrest height measuring device so that its top end touches the highest point of the backrest.
  6. Front Armrest Position Measurement: Place a fixture on the front edges of both armrests and measure the horizontal distance between the fixture and the CMD vertical component.

III. Common Size Range References

  1. Seat Dimensions: Fixed-style seats typically have a width of 40-45 centimeters. It is advisable to choose adjustable models, which can have a width range of 38-48 centimeters to accommodate different body types.
  2. Seat Height: The standard height range for office chairs is 40-50 centimeters. Adjustments should be made according to the user's height to ensure that the feet are flat on the ground and the thighs are parallel to the ground.
  3. Special Models: Chairs with headrests can have a total height of up to 120 centimeters. For split-type connecting steel plates, a thickness of 6-8 millimeters is required to ensure structural stability.

IV. Precautions Ensure the accuracy of measuring tools (such as the calibration of long rulers and level gauges) during measurement to avoid data deviations caused by operational errors. If the chair has adjustable functions (such as lifting and tilting), measure the dimensions in each state separately and record the adjustment ranges. For non-standard designs (such as irregular backrests and curved seats), refer to the 'Special Shape Measurement Methods' in the standard for supplementary operations.
